About the Role:

Note that this Operational Assistant role is embedded within the business and will report to the SWE Head of Operations and the SWE Chief Finance Officer.


What you'll be doing:

  • Report into the SWE Head of Operations and the Chief Finance Officer (CFO), while having numerous and regular contacts with Management Committee and other colleagues, based in Luxembourg or abroad
  • Provide those colleagues with support in their activities by supporting projects, daytoday activities and conducting relevant background research
  • Take part to the implementation and followup of Change activities within SWE and provide impact analysis regarding new issues identified
  • Liaise with internal/external interlocutors, partners and suppliers (ICT correspondents, landlord and property managers, public administrations and authorities) in order to acquire/provide information, resolve operational problems, referring as appropriate
  • Contribute to the challenge of existing practices (processes, policies and procedures) to protect the interests of SWE and the wider LBG Group
  • Actively participate under CFO supervision in the administration of invoices, payments and other accounting activities to ensure compliance with SWE policies and standard processes
  • Contribute to the monitoring and followup of the strategic plan
  • Forecast and monitor overall companies charges and expenses
  • Support CFO in all (corporate, Withholding, VAT) tax returns
  • Contribute to personal data protection and antimoney laundering activities (risk assessments, screenings, regulatory reporting, etc.), as required by European, national and Group regulations and requirements
  • Provide ICT technical support, e.g. ensure IT / network accesses for SWE Colleagues, IT updates are processed and managed orderly and efficiently
  • Act as "Record Management Champion" for electronic and physical records, to make sure practices and standards of the company comply on a continuous basis with those of the Group
  • Check SWE website is and remains fit for purpose and its content, accurate and compliant following policy or regulatory changes
About Scottish Widows Europe ("SWE")


Scottish Widows Europe, a subsidiary of Scottish Widows, was established in Luxembourg to ensure continuity of servicing for its existing EU business after the UK's exit from the EU, and is authorized to conduct run-off insurance business in Europe ("SWE").


The portfolio of SWE is largely represented by with-profit policies (but also includes unit-linked policies), originally sold through the Clerical Medical Brand.

The portfolio has c.€2 billion assets, with approximately 55,000 policyholders. Since March 2019, the business has been run from Luxembourg, and maintains branches in Germany and Italy. SWE relies on outsourcers in Germany, Italy and Luxembourg to provide policyholder service and administration.


SWE or equivalent experience is part of Scottish Widows, a 100% subsidiary of LBG and a strong life and pension company in the UK.

Its product range includes life assurance, pensions, investments and savings. The company has been providing financial services to the UK market since 1815. The company sells products through independent financial advisers, direct to customers and through LBG bank branches. Scottish Widows employs around 3,000 people.

What we need from you:

  • Bachelor degree in relevant discipline(s), with sound IT, management, economics and accounting background
  • Preferably at least 2 years of relevant experience in an international and multicultural environment
  • Good organizational and excellent communication skills
  • Proficient in French and English, Luxemburgish, German or Italian would be a plus
