_ Please note that the Programme is created under the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) and is open to young nationals from one of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) Region (Algeria, Egypt, Palestine, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco and Tunisia) and ACP (Africa, Caribbean and Pacific) Region, all 79 ACP Partner Countries (please see Provisions section)._

Objective of the traineeship:


The overall objective of the traineeship will be to support the Mobility Department on assessing the resilience of transport networks in Lending activities.


In particular, you will:

  • Review of existing studies/report from MDBs and sector specialists on infrastructure resilience and vulnerability of road networks.
  • Carry out an assessment of the resilience of road networks in the MENA and ACP regions (potential identification of countries will be done during inception phase). Resilience of a network, defined as the ratio of the loss of functionality to the loss of assets (i.e. a high resilience transport network can lose many assets without losing much functionality)
  • Based on the assessment of each network resilience, determine the magnitude of investments needed to make the network resilient.
  • Based on available data on increased and severe meteorological events, assess the impact on the deterioration of existing networks and determine the potential investment gaps in terms of extraordinary maintenance.
  • Review of existing studies/report from MDBs on climate adaptation measures and the related methodologies for the estimation of the climate adaption financing.
  • Propose a methodology that, based on the MDBs methodologies and above assessments, provides with a pragmatic approach to a networkbased quantification of financing needs in terms of climate adaption measures.

Responsibilities:

Your main tasks will be:

  • Carry out an assessment of the resilience of road networks in the MENA and ACP regions;
  • Determine the investments needed to make assessed networks resilient; and
  • Propose a methodology that provides with a pragmatic approach to a networkbased quantification of financing needs in terms of climate adaption measures.

Academic qualifications and professional skills:

  • Final year of studies or University degree of a MENA/ACP partner country preferably in an appropriate field, such as Civil Engineering, or Environmental Engineering, or other relevant degree in Science.
  • Knowledge in water management / hydrology, risk analysis and climate change will be an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of standard Microsoft Office tools (in particular Excel and Word).
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English. Knowledge of French would be an advantage.
