**EIF Posting**:
The **European Investment Fund** (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its **Strategic Planning and Analysis (SPA) Division's Business Planning (BP) Unit **at its headquarters in **Luxembourg, **a **Trainee.**

Duration: five (5) months & Starting date: 1 May 2023

Specific Post Environment:_**

The EIF operates under a fair treatment principle to ensure equal access to all suitable investment opportunities across clients. In 2017, the EIF has reinforced this process through the creation of a revised deal allocation framework. This process provides an independent forum for internal decisions on the allocation of resources to equity transactions The deal allocation team, within the Strategic Business Planning service of the EIF, is in charge of managing this process. The Trainee will support the execution of tasks related to testing and analysis of the inputs of the model that supports the attribution of resources to investment deals.

You will support the execution of tasks related to testing and analysis of the inputs of the model that supports the attribution of resources to investment deals.

**_ Responsibilities_**:
Under the guidance of a senior member of the team and working with a more junior member, you shall:

- Execute a data quality control exercise on the investment preferences of equity mandates by conducting an analysis to the set of investment criteria prepared by the investment teams and compare with the variables required by the model;
- Collect and consolidate the findings from the previous step, to be shared with the team;
- Establish (with the support of SPA/BP Officers) a process or tool to facilitate the continuous quality control of mandate investment preferences (e.g., dashboard);
- Propose additional parameters that can be included in the mandate investment preferences (e.g., sectorial, thematical, geographical);
- Record additional mandate requirements that are not captured by the investment preferences above and consolidate them in a document (existing, to be updated);
- Update the document from previous step if/when required.

**_ Expected outcome:_**
- Document the improvements detected on investment preferences of equity mandates;
- Definition of a process to ensure the continuous quality check of mandate investment preferences supported by SPA/BP Officers;
- Document proposing additional parameters that can be included in the mandate investment preferences;
- Updated document summarising mandate requirements not captured by the investment preferences.

**_ Qualifications:_**
- University degree (or on-going studies at advanced stage) in Business Administration, International Business, European Studies, Economic Studies, Engineering or similar.

**_ Competencies:_**

Professional knowledge required:

- Basic knowledge and understanding of the EIF's mission, activities and market (mainly the equity part);
- Good understanding of the EIF's products (mainly equity)
- Basic knowledge of the EIF and EU-related policies and priorities.

Technical skills required:

- Fluency in common IT tools (MS Excel, Word & PowerPoint);
- Basic data analysis skills (using Excel);
- Any familiarity with advanced Excel functionalities or other IT tools would be an asset.

Experience required:

- Prior experience in banking/finance, consulting or in institutions similar to EIF (e.g., development bank or NPI);
Key competencies required:

- Good drafting, analysis and synthesis skills;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Fluency in English; knowledge of other EU languages considered an asset;
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure, multitask, self-organise and meet strict deadlines, while at the same time delivering high-quality results;
- Ability to discriminate between taking initiative and working autonomously under given objectives vs. seeking for guidance or approval by team hierarchy.
