The **European Investment Fund** **(EIF)** is seeking to recruit for its **Research & Market Analysis Division **at its headquarters in **Luxembourg, **a **Trainee - Economic Researcher.**
Duration: five (5) months & Starting date: 1 February 2023

Specific Post Environment: _**
By developing and offering targeted financial products to its intermediaries, the European Investment Fund (EIF) enhances SME access to finance and fosters EU objectives, notably in the field of entrepreneurship, growth, innovation, research and development, employment, and regional development.
The Research & Market Analysis (RMA) team supports the EIF’s business development and strategic decision-making processes through applied research, market analyses, surveys, and economic impact assessments. RMA works as EIF’s internal advisor, participates in international fora, and liaises with many organisations and institutions concerning research on SME finance.
You will be part of the EIF’s RMA Division, which is part of EIF’s General Secretariat Department.
**_Overall objective: _**
**_ Responsibilities_**:
Under the guidance of the senior members of the team, you will:
- Analyse data of the surveys mentioned above;
- Support the preparation of related reports, presentations and working papers (e.g. prepare visualisations of survey data, write interpretations of survey results, review input received from other report contributors; possibly contribute to empirical analyses of survey data);
- Possibly support data retention and data exploring tools based on survey (and potentially other market intelligence) data;
- Support the preparation of new survey waves;
- Contribute to RMA’s general research & market analysis tasks, when relevant to the scope of the project.
You are expected to be fully dedicated to the internship. Undertaking any commitments in parallel that might interfere with your internship at EIF would be strongly discouraged.

Expected outcome: _**
Based on the EIF surveys:
- Reports (e.g., EIF Working Papers);
- Presentations;
- Datasets;
- Survey questions for RMA’s 2024 wave of surveys.
**_ Qualifications: _**
University degree (preferably at Master’s level, or on-going postgraduate studies at advanced stage), in the field of Finance or (Business) Economics, or other similar.
**_ Competencies:_**
Technical/Professional Knowledge & Skills required:
- Some knowledge and understanding of the EIF’s mission, activities and products and of markets and legal frameworks relevant to the EIF business, as well as policies and priorities in that context;
- Familiarity with investment practices in the PE/VC and/or of NPIs will be considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite.
**_ Experience required:_**
- Familiarity with statistical software packages (Stata) and/or Python programming is an advantage.
- Additional knowledge of data retention and/or data exploring tools would be a plus;
- Prior experience in banking/finance would be a plus.
**_ General Competencies required:_**
- Good analytical, drafting and synthesis skills;
- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English; knowledge of further EU languages considered an asset;
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team;
- Ability to work productively and under tight deadlines;
- Demonstrate initiative, capability to work autonomously under given objectives and time constraints; organise own work effectively.
