(EIF) is seeking to recruit for its
Private Credit Division (PC) at its headquarters in
Luxembourg, a
Trainee.


Duration: 5 months & Starting date: October 2023

Specific Post Environment:
_**The Trainee will operate within the Private Credit ("PC") Division at EIF, in the Credit Market Products Department.

The "PC" team is in charge of originating, negotiating and closing investments in senior private credit funds in Europe, reserved to institutional investors and focusing on SME and small mid-cap lending.

The investment activity is mainly undertaken under mandates provided by the European Commission and aims at (i) contributing to providing access to alternative sources of finance to small companies in Europe and (ii) developing the ecosystem of senior private credit players in Europe with a specific focus on policy priorities, such as sustainability, green investments and/or diversity.


_ Overall objective:
_

Assist the Private Credit Team in:

  • improving and operationalising an internal automated performance analysis and benchmarking tool (net risk-adjusted return analysis) for a significant pool of private credit funds invested by the EIF so far; and
- carrying out dedicated research on European alternative lenders and the market (including on sustainability developments) for the purpose of understanding market dynamics and identifying investment opportunities across the full EU-27 space (including related to thematics, such as sustainability or diversity).

_ Responsibilities_:


Under the guidance and supervision of a Senior Officer, you shall mainly work on the performance analysis and benchmarking tool for private credit funds and carry out dedicated research on European alternative lenders and the market dynamics.

You will also get insight into the day-to-day activities of the PC team through ad-hoc activities of support on specific transaction-related tasks.


_ Expected outcome:
_

The Traineeship shall result in:

  • Presentation of the improved and fully functional private credit reference benchmark tool;
  • Presentation of the results and conclusions on the deepdive into performance data from different analysis angles (default analysis vs provisioning);
  • Monthly presentations on the private credit market (by thematic/ geographic focus).

_ Qualifications:
_

  • University degree (preferably at Master's level, or ongoing postgraduate studies at advanced stage) in Corporate Finance, Business & Economics, Private Credit/Private Equity/Venture Capital, Asset Management, or any other related field;
  • Basic understanding of EIF ́s products;
  • Some knowledge and understanding of EIF's mission, activities and legal framework, its interaction with the market, as well as policies and priorities in that context;
  • Basic knowledge about and strong interest in the alternative asset classes investment space (especially private credit and its interaction with other alternative asset classes such as private equity);
  • Understanding fixed income and private equity concepts;
  • CFA/CAIA designations are considered a plus;
  • Interest in integration of sustainability in investment practice is considered a plus;
  • Prior experience in M&A, banking/finance and/or familiarity with private credit and/or private equity isconsidered a plus;
  • Prior experience in an international professional and/or academic environment is considered a plus.

  • Good drafting and synthesis skills;
  • Ability to structure and conceptualize information;
  • Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English English. Knowledge of further EU languages is considered an asset;
  • Good interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Ability to work productively;
  • Initiative, capability to work autonomously under given objectives and organise own work effectively even under time pressure.
