Senior Construction Health and Safety Manager

Diploma or Bachelors Degree preferably science / technical based discipline.
- Experience in a similar role
- HSE qualifications recognized locally or internationally e.g. OSHA, NEBOSH, BSC, IOSH, Industrial Safety diploma governed by respective national / state government organizations.
- Knowledge of OHSAS: 18001 & ISO: 14001
- Knowledge of local HSE regulations, client policies and procedures (added advantage)
- Fluency in English

The Senior Construction Health and Safety Manager inside EMEA Ops Engineering team drives Health and Safety performance across EMEA Engineering Services delivery teams. The Senior Construction Health and Safety Manager plans, resources, and leads a team of construction H&S manager to support a portfolio of specific building types during the construction cycle. Simultaneously, they own the development and roll out of specific components of the Construction H&S Management System in support of multiple business lines across all EMEA countries.

The Sr Construction Health and Safety Manager aligns on objectives and key success criteria with multiple internal stakeholders inside Engineering Services (D&C, Ops Eng, Start-Up, Launch), outside (WHS, HR, Procurement, RME, Legal), and also external stakeholders (GC, direct vendors, H&S consultants). The Senior Construction H&S Manager sets the proper communication with the delivery teams from all functions and is accountable towards the end customers.

Key job responsibilities

The core responsibilities are split across two dimensions:

- Provide field support to a specific region:

- Drive construction H&S performance of a portfolio of 40+ construction projects across multiple countries to achieve Eng Services goals: through analysis and management of safety saves (150 per month), serious incident investigations (10+ per month), Minutes of Meeting (160 per month), weekly audits (320 per month), reduce serious incident rate and lost time incident rate 10% YoY and achieve 100% compliance to investigation procedure and action management
- Works closely with Pre-Construction and Procurement to address high impact decisions such as GC and H&S consultants’ allocation.
- As construction safety expert, advise the leadership team on serious incident and non-compliance management.
- Identify H&S legal, financial, moral, and reputational risks to the business and propose mitigation plans.
- Develop programs to improve the efficiency of the H&S management system that will impact the larger GES organization
- Develop policy, procedures, tools, and resources to support the EMEA Construction H&S Management System
- Aligns with the Stakeholders (EMEA Eng functions, RME, WHS, Global teams, Procurement) and fulfills the Customers’ expectations
- Sets a strategy for sharing best practices and lessons learned across global regions to set EMEA as a global construction leading role
- Leads cross-portfolio implementations (Bolt, new scope of services) and special projects, working closely with the Stakeholders, the Customers and functions from other departments such as WHS, Sustainability
- Drives innovation and simplifications to the H&S end-to-end assurance program

To be successful, the Senior Construction H&S Manager Hires and Develops talents through direct leadership and mentoring. They manage a team of Construction H&S managers in different EMEA countries, sets career progressions for each of them, addresses staff under performance. The Senior Construction H&S Manager communicates effectively within the EMEA Engineering teams to align expectations and setting cross functional initiatives; decides when to escalate to the Leadership.
