LISER invites motivated applicants for the position of Student Research Assistant/Intern to join the research teams at the Department of Urban Development and Mobility (UDM) at LISER within the framework of the research project « Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI): a system development to support sharing research outputs and implementing open geospatial research practices at LISER ».
- develop and improve his/her methodological and programming competences in the fields of spatial data science as well as big data engineering and management;
- learn how to implement open data science and open research practices;
- develop collaborative and adaptive attitude and approaches for solving specific problems;
- actively participate in a stimulating research environment and an innovative team.
**Your role**
As a Student Research Assistant/Intern, your tasks will be the following:
- (pre-)process and clean vector-based and raster-based spatial data and construct their metadata by using and modifying metadata automation software;
- study and develop methods to automate new spatial data collection and metadata construction for research output management (outputs: data, methods, workflows);
- collect and develop existing and new tutorials for spatial data collection, progressing, and analysis in Python/R, ideally written in Jupyter notebook;
- support the institution’s project leaders and their research output contributions related to the newly developed spatial data infrastructure;
- participate in research paper writing and other activities related to the project (optional).
**Your profile**
- student enrolled in a Master’s program in Computer/Data Sciences, Geographic Information Science/Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline;
- data handling and analysis skills for various types of (spatial) data and knowledge in (spatial) data management and documentation would be essential;
- good programming skills in Python/R, Git, and Jupyter notebook would be considered as an asset;
- knowledge and experience in open data science or open research practices would be a plus;
- fluency (oral and written) in English and any other languages (Luxembourgish, French, and/or German) would be considered as an asset.
