- The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is a Research and Technology Organization (RTO) active in the fields of materials, environment, and IT. - We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced postdoctoral researcher with expertise in natural fibre composite processing and a profound understanding of cellulosic materials. In this role, you will play a crucial part in conducting active and experimental research focused on the processing of cellulosic composite materials in the form of all cellulose composites for use in ballistic protection and employing a range of natural and cellulosic fibres as feedstocks.
- Your responsibilities will involve the processing and characterization of composites using state-of-the-art techniques such as atomic force microscopy (AFM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), XRD, FTIR and mechanical testing. Additionally, you will be expected to develop and optimize existing processing techniques for all-cellulose composites and explore options for creating hybrid composites from cellulosic and para-aramid fibres.

The postdoc will participate in regular meetings, effectively communicate findings in a professional fashion in both oral and written form, and take a leading role in the protection and dissemination of the work, while interacting constructively and in a positive manner with a diverse group of colleagues and contributing to the success of the group, unit and institution. An active contribution to shape the direction of the proposed research is strongly encouraged.
- This supported in the context of the SAFER (ballistic armour from biofibres) project and funded through the Luxembourg Joint Defence Call. Thus, applicants must be citizens of EU and/or NATO member states.
- Dr Tim Huber - Senior R&T Associate and Dr Prof. Carlos Fuentes - Senior R&T Associate will be happy to welcome and guide you during this post-doc.
- You hold a PhD in materials science, materials processing, composites, or a related field, with a strong motivation towards experimental research in a diverse, collaborative, and team-oriented environment. You are familiar with the processing of cellulosic materials and composites and able to characterize those materials by advanced techniques (e.g. micro tomography, digital image correlation, image analysis)), study their thermal, and mechanical behaviour and processing characteristics.
- On top of this, you’re highly motivated and able to work in a team. You are fluent in English. You’re the one we’re looking for
