***

- **3 years fixed-term working contract at LISER (extension upon conditions)**
- **Full-time, 40 hours/week**
- **Location: Belval (Luxembourg)**
The Department of Urban Development and Mobility (UDM) at LISER would like to strengthen its position in research on urban inequalities by recruiting an expert in urban sociology, urban geography or other relevant social sciences to address relevant scientific and societal challenges. The expert is invited to engage with the ways in which political and economic governance systems at the local and national levels entrench inequalities in all its dimensions (social, spatial, environmental). This is crucial at a time in which the environmental transition impacts social and economic trajectories and the distribution of resources and capabilities.
With its national (Housing, Spatial Development) and local (e.g. Luxembourg-City, Esch-sur-Alzette, and Schifflange) observatories, UDM is home to empirically rich research on Luxembourg and beyond. These projects generate a wealth of detailed and spatialized administrative data that make it possible to investigate urban inequalities, both within and across cities, in a dynamic cross-border region.
**Your role**
- Produce high-level academic publications and submit competitive research proposals on urban inequality drawing on the detailed administrative microdata (Land Registry, Social Security, population registers, etc.) collected in these observatories;
- Stimulate synergies between the observatories within UDM to draw out the mechanisms that create multidimensional inequalities.
**Your profile**
- A Ph.D. (or be close to completion thereof) in urban sociology, urban geography or other relevant social science;
- A proven record of high quality research on socio-spatial inequalities, as well as a demonstrable social impact in research outputs;
- A good knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods;
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Proficiency in French or German will be considered as an asset.
- LISER particularly encourage female researchers to apply_
**What we offer**
- A dynamic and international research environment with good working conditions and a stimulating work environment;
- Resources to participate in international meetings and conferences;
- An internationally competitive remuneration;
- A range of training and development opportunities designed to support career development plans.
