The **Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) **is a **research **centre** for the study, analysis and public dissemination of contemporary history of Luxembourg and Europe with a particular focus on digital methods and tools for doing innovative historical research. It serves as a catalyst for **innovative** and **creative** scholarship and new forms of public dissemination and societal engagement with history.
The Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (University of Luxembourg) announces a two years Post-Doctoral position in Contemporary History, starting June 1st, 2024. The post-doctoral researcher will join the CD-Hist project, funded by the FNR and aiming at reconstructing the history of CD-ROMS - as both a storage tool in the late 1980s and an entire branch of digital culture in the 1990s. This approach encompasses technical, economic, cultural, and social dimensions and embeds this “object biography” into the longer history of digital storage, interactivity, mediated interactions, consumption, and practices. The CD-Hist project is led by Prof. Valérie Schafer.
**Your Role...**:
- Contribute to the project, to the general narrative and to case studies (creation of corpus and analysis of born-digital heritage of CD-ROMs, close and distant reading of press, advertisings, oral histories )
- Engage in and contribute to the dynamics of the CD-Hist research team
- Participate to the design of the CD-ROM exhibition (2026) and to the media archaeology part. Develop material (timeline, etc.) and short guided tours for the general public
- Disseminate results through scientific publications and oral presentations at conferences
- Organize and implement some outreach activities for CD-Hist, help coordinate international events, and conferences
- Take part to the EHI and C2DH team activities (seminars, etc.)
**What we expect from you**:
- PhD in history or related fields, with a strong expertise in media studies, and/or history of computing, history of innovation, media archaeology, digital studies
- Experience with digital corpora and computational tools for distant reading would be a strong asset
- Ability to participate to a collective research project
- Language skills: excellent working knowledge of French and English
