Organisation:

CNA Hardy is part of CNA Financial Corp, one of the largest U.S. commercial property and casualty insurance companies. Established in 1897, CNA has approximately 7,000 employees, serving businesses and professionals in the U.S., Canada and Europe. CNA Hardy and CNA Canada together make up CNA's International Segment where employing circa 700 staff.

CNA Hardy is a leading specialist commercial insurance provider for clients within the Lloyd's and company markets. We offer a highly specialised and comprehensive portfolio of innovative and market leading products. Coverage is available to businesses of all sizes for domestic, international and global exposures.

We write business at Lloyd's through Syndicate 382 in London. Via our Lloyd's platform we have the ability to write business in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.

From a company perspective we write business in the UK and Continental Europe through our pan-European branch network.

The UK business is written in CNA Insurance Company Ltd (CICL) and is managed from operations in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester and Norwich.


CICE is a 100% subsidiary of CICL and it is headquartered in Luxembourg and has branch operations in Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands as well as Freedom of Service access to EU business placed in the UK.


Role Summary / Role Overview


Acting within the authorities delegated to them, the General Manager of
CICE, as an Officer of the company, is responsible for the oversight and management of the
CICE entity and it's regulatory, fiscal and compliance obligations.

Working within a strong matrix environment this role will partner with technical leadership in multiple functions across the organisation.

Strategic & Operational Responsibilities

  • Acts as head of
    CICE with regard to daytoday management of the business and its people.
  • Meets the requirements of the designations of licensed manager (_dirigeant agréé_), daily manager (_délégué à la gestion journalière_) and distribution manager.
  • Acts as the key relationship holder and contact for the CAA and other relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Operates in accordance with legal and regulatory responsibilities including director's duties.
  • Participates, leads and reports as appropriate in all
    CICE Boards, committees and forums.
  • Operates as a leader of the
    CICE management team and contributes to creating a cohesive team spirit across the whole organisation.
  • Fosters an inclusive culture that allows everyone to bring their full selves to work and inspires strong performance. Leads by example.
  • In conjunction with key stakeholders develops and executes on business plans and strategic priorities for
    CICE.
  • Ensures business performance is effectively managed with the utilisation of relevant, accurate and timely management information.
  • Oversees the financial performance of the entity and reports as appropriate to the CAA and other regulatory and external bodies.
  • Operates effectively in a matrix structure and liaises with functional experts across
    CICE and the CNA group to deliver business priorities and adhere to regulatory and legal controls and frameworks.
  • Manages the service provision to
    CICE from elsewhere within the CNA Group and ensures it is effective.
  • Represents
    CICE and its' interests at all relevant Group forums and committees.
  • Takes responsibility for the appropriate oversight of
    CICE specific governance activities across General Management, Finance, Risk, Actuarial, Audit and Compliance.
  • Ensures Financial, Regulatory, Fiscal and Compliance reporting obligations are met and that an effective entity financial control framework is in place to manage Accounting, Treasury, Tax and Collections activities.
  • Complies with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements and ensures that appropriate measures are in place to ensure this compliance.
  • Manages costs effectively against agreed budget within function.
  • Performs additional duties as required or assigned.
