We are seeking an experienced Chief Compliance & Legal Officer to lead the Legal and Compliance function of a well-established international private bank in Luxembourg. Reporting directly to the CEO and functionally to the Group Head of Legal and Compliance, this is a strategic leadership role and a member of the Executive Committee, with responsibility for ensuring the highest standards of legal, regulatory, and compliance oversight across the organisation.
As a trusted adviser to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, you will play a key role in shaping the Bank's governance framework, managing legal and regulatory risk, and fostering a strong culture of integrity and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a member of the Executive Committee, contributing to the strategic direction and leadership of the Bank.
- Lead and develop the Legal and Compliance functions, driving a culture of integrity, governance, and regulatory excellence.
- Define and execute the legal and compliance strategy in line with the Bank's objectives and risk appetite.
- Advise the CEO, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors on legal, regulatory, governance, and financial crime matters.
- Ensure the Bank maintains an effective legal and compliance framework and complies with all applicable Luxembourg and European regulatory requirements.
- Act as the principal point of contact with regulators, external legal counsel, auditors, and industry bodies.
- Provide independent oversight and constructive challenge to the business, supporting effective risk management and sound decision-making.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing Legal and Compliance teams. Profile sought: The successful candidate will be an accomplished legal and compliance executive with extensive experience within the private banking sector and a strong understanding of the Luxembourg regulatory environment. You will bring:
- A qualified legal background with at least 15 years' experience in legal and compliance within private banking or another highly regulated financial institution.
- Significant hands-on compliance experience, including regulatory compliance, AML/CFT, governance, and conduct risk.
- A proven track record of advising Executive Committees and Boards on complex legal and regulatory matters.
- Experience engaging with regulators and managing relationships with external stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the credibility to influence and challenge at Executive Committee and Board level.
