Software Engineer for Complex Problems
Shape how we build.
You will build on a mature, well-engineered platform that already runs real business, and you are expected to challenge and substantially improve it, not simply extend it. You will take on problems that arrive without a clear definition and see them through to something that works, choosing the approach and building the parts that matter.
The role is all-encompassing, the deep technicality is as important as the experience delivered to the customer. Just as important, you will help shape how we solve problems as a company, the tools, methods, and standards that decide how Lifeware works now and in the years to come.
We will not hand you a process to follow. We expect you to bring your own judgement and complete the process where it is missing.
What is Lifeware?
Founded in 1998 in Switzerland by a group of mathematicians, physicists, and computer scientists, Lifeware builds a platform that runs life insurance for large insurers. The domain is genuinely involved: complex actuarial logic, long-lived contracts, challenging system migrations. The people who do well here build from first principles and care about getting the fundamentals right. Artificial intelligence is moving to the core of the platform and the way we build it, shaping much of where the product goes next.
Are you a real fit for Lifeware?
We are looking for strong engineers with real depth, the kind of people who could hold their own among the mathematicians and physicists who built this company. It can show in different ways:
• something real and technically demanding you have built, whether a side project, a prototype, or a product in real use
• range across more than one field, for example moving between research, hardware, and software
• open-source code, published research, patents, or a project or company you have taken elsewhere yourself
• or none of the above, but a way of thinking that refuses to leave the status quo unquestioned, and the evident potential to improve on it A background in a STEM field helps, but we are not only after experienced software engineers. If software is not already your area of expertise, you should at least enjoy using it as a tool to solve problems. A long journey matters less than the right mindset, so a non-linear path, or being earlier in your career, is no obstacle. Enthusiasm for programming on its own is not enough. We want a real engineering mind with a vision. How this role works The role is based in Luxembourg and primarily on-site, with flexible hours. You will also be able to spend time at our other offices in Barcelona, Zurich, Lugano, Bolzano, and Chennai. Compensation is competitive (70.000 €
- 100.000 € gross) with a significant bonus based on performance. Interested? Tell us about something you have worked on and what made it interesting, or simply the kind of problem you would want to spend your time on. Visit www.lifeware.lu to learn more
