It means: Working ahead of demand and looking around corners Taking ownership for outcomes, not just tasks Creating long-term value and flexibility Using data to make informed decisions Solving problems rather than stopping at constraints Intentionally shaping what comes next, not simply responding to what is needed now Key job responsibilities Architect & Design: Lead the architecture and design of new and existing systems within GOES Tech, including design patterns, reliability, scalability, and performance optimization Build & Deliver: Drive full software development lifecycle execution — from coding standards and code reviews to source control management, build processes, testing, and operations Lead & Mentor: Serve as a technical leader and mentor to engineering team members, raising the bar on technical excellence and engineering culture across GOES Tech Operate at Scale: Own the reliability and operational health of globally deployed, highly concurrent, high-throughput systems Partner Cross-Functionally: Collaborate with product management, program management, and senior leadership across GOES Tech and Global Operations to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions Drive the Developer Mindset: Work ahead of demand, use data to inform decisions, take ownership of outcomes, and proactively shape the future of our systems and processes Innovate Continuously: Identify opportunities to reduce cycle time, improve capital efficiency, and accelerate capability development through technology A day in the life This is a hands-on position in which you will own everything from end to end: requirements gathering, designs, design reviews, implementations, code reviews, incremental feature launches, operations, mentoring, and the driving of continuous improvement. A successful candidate will have a deep technical expertise, excellent leadership skills, an interest in developing software, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. You should be comfortable diving deep into technical architectures and requirements, be able to quickly identify solutions to challenges discovered during development, and ready to work with some of the latest cloud computing and AI technology. About the team GOES Tech (Global Operations & Engineering Services Tech) builds the infrastructure, data foundation, and operational frameworks that let Global Operations scale and make faster, better decisions. We measure our impact by reducing cycle time, improving capital efficiency, ensuring compliance, and accelerating capability development across the organization. This role sits on the Central Infra team, which owns the transition from design to physical reality across Amazon's global footprint. We handle cost forecasting, project execution, and program management, and our systems and tools are the backbone that keep projects planned, tracked, and delivered with precision at scale. The team is also building low code product that defines our new way of building, our platform for operations software, so this hire will help design and scale services that other teams across GOES Tech can build on. Qualifications:
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
- Experience in professional, non-internship software development
- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience in development in the last 3 years Preferred

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
