Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

Within the MRT department, we aim to create of a new generation of sustainable polymer composites with excellent mechanical properties, low weight and low density. Our vision begins with sustainable components, namely with the creation of the novel vitrimeric polymer matrix based on RT-curing epoxy chemistries and possessing enhanced thermal and mechanical properties.

**Responsibilities**:
**How will you contribute?**:
**You will be mainly in charge of**:

- Synthesis of new monomers (bis-epoxides);
- Synthesis of novel vitrimeric thermosets by varying the nature and ratio of epoxy and hardener;
- Characterization of the obtained cross-linked materials (DSC, TGA, rheology, tensile testing, etc.);
- Establishment of a fundamental understanding of the relevant structure-properties relations

Must Have Requirements
**Education**
- Currently enrolled in a Master 2 Organic Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry degree

**Experience and skills**
- Be passionate about chemistry;
- Have a strong desire to perform experimental research in a lab environment;
- Display a clear commitment to safe working practices;
- Communicate effectively and work well with others;
- Previous experience with organic and polymer synthesis would be an asset;
- Knowledge of thermal and/or rheological characterization of polymer networks is desired;

**Language skills**
- Good level both written and spoken English, French is considered as an asset
