**Internship position in Biochemistry/Biology (Master Student) - TB1022**:
Within the Department of Precision Health, Dr. Torsten Bohn, Head of a newly formed group around Food, Diet, Nutrition & Health (NUTRIHEALTH), aims, in collaboration with his Team, to explore the relation of dietary patterns, nutrient composition and chronic disease aspects with a focus on cardiometabolic health and associated innovative biomarkers of disease and health such as oxidative stress and inflammation. A close collaboration with the other departmental teams around environmental pollution, physical activity, and e-health is envisioned.
For a project related to Precision Medicine and dietary fiber intervention, we are offering a 6 months paid Master (2)-Student internship at our premesis.
The main tasks of the Master Student will be to perform laboratory analyses in a previously defined intervention study and a longitudinal cohort, examining oxidative stress markers related to dietary fiber exposure and how these might relate to metabolic syndrome and diabetes, targeting a deeper understanding of how these markers may inform future decision-making in clinical practice, in order to provide improved health management to individual patients. In the frame of this work, the Master student will benefit from the expertise of Dr. Torsten Bohn in nutrition and health, Dr. Hanen Samouda in obesity programs development and management, Dr. Farhad Vahid regarding dietary patterns health outcomes and will support especially a PhD student but also other researchers in the team. Statistical support in-house is available.
**MAIN ACTIVITIES**
- Hands-on analysis of biospecimens (blood, urine) in the laboratory;
- Together with the laboratory technician and the PhD student, setting up methods to measure oxidative stress in plasma/urine.
- Discuss results within group & other researchers;
- Interpret findings statistically and biologically;
- Give presentations at local institute level;
- Join other group-based activities.
**REQUIRED PROFILE**
- Master (2) in Biology/Biochemistry/Biomedical studies with a focus on Diet & Health, or comparable;
- Good experience in working in laboratory settings;
- Interest in learning new laboratory techniques;
- Interest in gainig insight regarding complex biological systems and biomarker interpretation
- Very good level in English spoken and in written;
- Good organizational skills;
- Knowledge of French and/or German is an assett.
