Located in Luxembourg, we are a service company that hosts Europe's single leading trading platform(e-CAT) for cross-border transmission capacity. On behalf of TSOs, we auction the available long and short-term transmission capacity rights on all internal EU borders.

On the 1st of October 2018, JAO became the Single Allocation Platform (SAP) for all European Transmission System Operators (TSOs) that operate in accordance with EU legislation, since it is able to implement and fulfill all regulatory obligations and requirements. We provide accounting (clearing and settlement), contracting, reporting and project support services.


About the job

We are looking for an experienced Implicit Allocation Expert to join our team in Luxembourg on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in European electricity markets, with a particular focus on market coupling processes, related market mechanisms and regulatory frameworks. The role requires a deep understanding of the business, regulatory and operational aspects and close collaboration with stakeholders across the European electricity market landscape. The ideal candidate has gained practical experience within a TSO, NEMO, CCP or a comparable organisation. They are comfortable analysing complex market developments, translating regulatory changes into business requirements, and supporting the evolution of market services through expert knowledge and structured analysis.

This position's objective is to act as the subject matter expert for JAO's implicit market services, ensuring a deep understanding of the associated methodologies, regulatory frameworks, market processes, stakeholder interactions and service evolution. The role contributes to the continuous development, optimisation and governance of the services while providing expert support to projects, business initiatives and strategic decision-making.


Key activities in the position:

  • Maintain end-to-end business expertise on implicit capacity allocation, market coupling processes, congestion income distribution, publication, methodologies, business rules, contractual arrangements and applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of operational processes, associated workflows, controls and supporting systems, ensuring alignment with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyse regulatory developments, projects, business requirements and strategic initiatives, and assess their impact on existing services, methodologies and processes.
  • Act as an escalation point for complex business, market or operational issues requiring advanced expertise and structured analysis.
  • Support the development and maintenance of coherent service documentation, procedures, methodologies and knowledge repositories.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate understanding of market processes, requirements and service impacts.

Additional responsibilities for highly experienced candidates:

  • Contribute to the long-term evolution of implicit market services through strategic analysis and forward-looking recommendations.
  • Represent JAO in discussions with TSOs, NEMOs, CCPs, regulatory bodies, committees and industry groups.
  • Assess complex cross-service topics and provide strategic guidance on market developments and service evolution.
  • Drive or support transversal initiatives affecting multiple services or business domains.

We are looking for someone with the following skills set:

Experience

  • Proven experience in implicit electricity markets, market coupling or closely related areas.
  • Experience working for a TSO, NEMO, CCP or a comparable organization.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying regulatory frameworks, methodologies and business rules.
  • Experience performing business analysis, impact assessments or service design activities.
  • Experience participating in industry working groups or expert forums is considered an advantage.
