The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimising the organisation's database systems, primarily Microsoft SQL Server, while supporting the transition to cloud-based solutions such as Azure SQL. This role ensures data integrity, security, and high availability across all environments, providing critical support to application teams and business stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration
  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server instances and related components.
  • Implement and monitor backup and recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
  • Optimise database performance through proactive monitoring and tuning.
Security and Compliance
  • Manage user access and permissions in line with security best practices.
  • Apply patches and updates to maintain compliance and minimise vulnerabilities.
Support and Collaboration
  • Provide technical assistance to development, BI, and application teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and service requests.
Projects and Continuous Improvement
  • Lead or contribute to migration projects from on-premises SQL to Azure SQL.
  • Evaluate new technologies and propose improvements to database architecture.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Maintain accurate documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards.
  • Prepare regular performance and capacity reports for management.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in SQL Server administration (including SSRS, SSIS).
  • Good knowledge of Azure SQL and cloud database solutions.
  • Expertise in performance tuning and query optimisation.
  • Familiarity with database security principles and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to write clear technical documentation and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Education and Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.
