Head of Competition Watch

Part of Finance Flats Europe, we are looking for the Head of Competition Watch & Capex Controlling. Position reports to segment CFO.
Missions of the position includes:
Competition watch: to develop a comprehensive understanding of the scope of activities, footprint, financials, and strategies of the competitors, in order to provide the senior management with regular, consistent and accurate overview of the operational and financial performance of the competitors (actual and forecast) as well as to provide inputs for our own internal financial planning process.
Capex Controlling: Work closely with COO/CTO teams and ensure a very strong follow-up and reporting of Capex spend, financial analysis of capex projects.
Competition Watch responsibilities:
- Prepare and provide reports on quarterly, half-yearly, annual financial forecasts for competitors in order to enable any adjustments in the internal target setting process. This is done using:
- external analyst forecasts
- internal models incorporating general spread evolution and specific adjustments for each competitor’s footprint/scope
- Analysis of the competitor P&L covering
- top line analysis with CMO team to explain sales price evolution,
- cost analysis based on raw material basket evolution with EPO, fixed costs (key input headcount), CO2 costs based on a combination of published information and internal assessment
- Transformation / productivity analysis of HR initiatives
- Provide ad-hoc analysis requested by Senior management, including specific questions from the Executive Office.
- Detailed analysis on exposure to factor price volatility (e.g., NG/electricity hedge positions), CO2 hedge position, contract mix, transformation plans, SG&A costs, etc.
- Quarterly Alert information after the Earning Releases of each competitor including the evolution of key KPIs of the competitor’s vs ArcelorMittal Flat Products Segment/clusters.
- Regular tracking and reporting of news regarding Competitors.
- Update of the GAPM GCB database packages on Competitors.
- Duisburg HM cost model vs Gent and other BD North sites to compare the progress we are making vs Thyssenkrupp.
Capex Controlling responisbilities:
- Support COO/CTO team in the preparation of the budget and multi-year plan capex - key focus is on financial analysis of strategic projects upfront in order to ensure the financial viability of such projects.
- Hygiene activities including:
- Tracking and reporting of budget vs actual spend
- Supporting the payments process through weekly steerco as well as troubleshooting any capex payment issues
- Supporting the other capex stakeholders in specific actions related to meeting capex cash out targets (factoring, LCs, etc.)
- Financial analysis of capex projects to be submitted for approval to the IAC/Pre-IAC/segment management; specific focus on service agreements and leases where make or buy analysis is required.
- Monthly reconciliation between BPM and PPM to ensure alignment or explain the reason for differences
- Update capex and depreciation in FAST on quarterly basis. For budget and MYP, in addition to capex/depreciation update, provide PPE including and excluding IFRS16 and assets under construction evolution.
- Provide guidance to cluster capex teams on the financial aspects.
- Support in obtaining CFTC, GAPM approvals for major lease renewals (e.g. wagons in France).
- Automation of capex reporting: segment lead to coordinate activities related to automation of capex reporting.
- Decarb funding support: Support to CFO and Climate Action/Govt Affairs team on funding files for decarbonization:
- Propose and keep updated the financial assumptions for various funding programs (IPCEI / ETS IF) based mainly on inputs from EPO.
- Ensure alignment across clusters on the assumptions used for financials; any deviations, when justified, are reported upfront and approved by segment management.
- Support clusters in preparing financials that demonstrate financial viability of projects.
- This work involves extensive coordination with central CTO/Climate action teams as well as regular touch points with cluster decarb teams.
- Analysis of JV Financials:
- Support CFO in the tracking of performance of JVs and preparation for BoDs (Borcelik, AMCLN, etc.)
- Manage the administrative aspect of reviewing JV BoD resolutions and other legal documents to ensure compliance with AM policies.
CO2 / EU ETS system: ongoing work to understand the mechanics of CO2 emission factors and free allowances with the target to support CFO team in CO2 tracking and simulations.
**Required Skills**:
- Capacity to address cross-functional topics from reading and understanding annual reports (good accounting / IFRS knowledge) to assessing industrial cost and product mix impacts (experience in costing and commercial controlling).
- Capable of working under pressure (competition watch) as questions come from the top management of AM Europe and often from the Executive office
