The **EIB**, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS), Central and South East Europe Department (CSEE), Corporates Division (2 - CORP) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a **(Senior) Banker*. **This is a full time position at grade 5/6.
- _Internal benchmark: (Senior) Officer Lending Operations_

**The term of this contract will be 4 years.**

**Purpose**:
You will be responsible for identifying, appraising, negotiating and monitoring lending operations across the geographic area covered by the Division with the objective of contributing to EIB policy objectives.

**Operating Network**:
You will report to the Head of Division and cooperate closely with colleagues in the Directorate, as well as with other functions of the Bank involved in the appraisal process. You will also build and maintain a close and active network with clients and other partners.

**Accountabilities**:
Project Origination process:
Track developments and monitor your target market, build and maintain a network of promoters and other market interlocutors, screen proposals and identify lending opportunities that best meet EIB objectives

Lending process:

- Evaluate, at an early stage, the quality of potential counterparts and projects to determine bankability and alignment with EIB objectives and eligibility criteria
- Work with potential clients to develop financing structures in line with EIB Risk and Policy Guidelines
- Lead and coordinate the appraisal process to establish creditworthiness of the Borrower/Guarantor and the financial, economic and technical viability of the project
- Draft term sheets, financial reports, lending proposals and approval documents and facilitate approval by appropriate hierarchies
- Ensure that the financial terms set by the Bank provide adequate returns..

Negotiation of contracts:

- Negotiate terms and conditions of loan and other project documentation with counterparts.
- Participate in the follow-up, monitoring and possible renegotiation of the portfolio ,.

Disbursement and monitoring_:_
- Monitor contractual compliance and the disbursement process

Optimisation of operating tools and working methods:

- Innovate and suggest improvements to existing tools, systems and products in response to changes in the operational framework
- Ensure correct input of data into management information systems
- Assume allocated country and sector responsibilities within the Division, sharing information and experience with other members of the team.

**Qualifications**:

- At least 5 years' relevant experience in long-term lending and/or structured finance. Experience of working in the corporate sector would be an advantage.
- Expertise in financial analysis and credit risk assessment.
- Very good communication skills, both oral and in writing.
- Knowledge of standard and EIB computer tools.
- Excellent spoken and written English. Knowledge of French*. Knowledge of languages spoken in the CSEE region may be considered an advantage.
