Functional Safety Assessor Europe

Position Summary
- Provide internal product functional safety assessments on all ASIL items per ISO 26262 to ensure compliance with all related customer requirements
- Coordinate with Functional Safety Engineers to provide internal coaching and guidance on functional safety requirements and execution strategies

Job role & responsibilities:

- Perform program functional safety assessments at appropriate program milestones and provided feedback and guidance to the development teams regarding gaps to requirements and improvement opportunities
- Provide feedback to the development organizations regarding their execution of functional safety work products and gaps to the requirements, including risk escalation
- Support on-going feedback to the Quality and Engineering leadership regarding functional safety execution, gaps to requirements, and continuous improvement opportunities
- Develop, adapt, and support functional safety assessment processes and tools in coordination with other BorgWarner Business Units
- Budget 25% travel time to perform assessment/audit as required with project teams

Must have experience and skills in all of these areas below:

- Significant experience managing functional safety programs for the automotive industry according to ISO26262 or similar
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent
- 3 to 5 years minimum experience in development of automotive electrical, electronic, and/or mechatronic systems or demonstrated equivalent
- Experience in development of Safety Plans/ Safety Cases for products with ASIL requirements highly preferred
- Recognized certification in Functional Safety Audit/ Assessing
- Skilled with traditional tools and processes for quality assurance (FMEA, DVP, Quality tools, problem solving )
- Strong ability to organize, communicate, and work as part of a global team

Desirable experience and skills:

- Experience and expertise in product safety of high voltage electrical systems
- Knowledge and awareness of IATF 16949 supplemental and its specific requirements of product safety
- A-SPICE assessor certification and auditing experience is a strong plus factor

- Excellent communication skills and able to deal with all levels of the organisation
- Ability to work well under pressure and prioritise work accordingly
- Comfortable in customer facing role, confident and thoughtful
- Must be able to work alone with minimum guidance, but also be able to operate effectively as part of a team.
- Flexibility to travel in UK and overseas

**Qualifications**:

- 2:1 in relevant engineering qualification
- Recognised certification in ISO262626 ( or preparedness to immediately gain )
- Relevant experience in Automotive
