The EMEA Legal Counsel will work as a member of PHINIA’s Legal Staff reporting to the Regional General Counsel for EMEA. The person in this role will provide guidance on a full spectrum of legal and compliance topics, including commercial, regulatory, product liability, employment, distribution, and corporate law.
- Negotiate, draft, and review complex contracts, including customer and supplier commercial agreements, standard terms and conditions and non-disclosure agreements.
- Provide legal analysis and advice on diverse operational legal and policy issues, including corporate governance, legal and regulatory compliance, warranty, and related insurance issues.
- Resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships.
- Cultivate and maintain channels of communication with key legal and business affairs personnel.
- Support the execution of the Company’s key global and regional strategic objectives.
- Anticipate legal and regulatory risks facing the business and identify appropriate solutions to proactively mitigate those risks.
- Assist in implementation of the Company’s compliance and training programs.
- Manage external counsel.
- Advise on labor and employment issues.
- Travel as necessary (regionally and internationally) to support and interface with clients and external counsels.
- Other duties as assigned and in accordance with prior experience
What we are looking for:
- Five (minimum) to 10 years of post-qualification experience in a corporate law department and/or in a private law firm handling complex commercial issues, as well as experience with product safety and related legal and regulatory frameworks. Familiarity with the automotive industry and/or employment law would be a plus.
- Completion of a European (includes United Kingdom) legal degree.
- License to practice law in a jurisdiction within Europe and strong knowledge of European legislation and policy.
- Excellent organizational and client-service skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize efforts to simultaneously meet multiple project deadlines and expectations.
- Strong communication skills (including legal drafting) and fluent in English. Fluency in French and/or German is considered an asset
