**About the role**
The role of Chief Risk Officer (CRO) derivatives business will be based in Luxembourg and assume the CRO responsibilities for Swiss Re Capital Markets Europe S.A. (SCRME) and regulated by the CSSF and the CAA.
In addition, the role would also be in charge of/act as CRO for two additional Swiss Re legal entities that handle derivatives:
- Swiss Re Capital Markets Limited (SCRML) based in the UK and Australia and regulated by FCA
- Swiss Re Corporate Solutions Global Markets Incorporated (SRCSGM) based in the US
The main purpose of the three entities is to support from a risk management perspective Swiss Re's environmental & commodity business (“ECM”), insurance linked securities, and life & health structured solutions businesses globally.
The role will report directly into the Head CorSo Global Risk Management and indirectly to the legal entity CEOs.
As CRO derivatives business, you will provide end-to-end risk management oversight for the three legal entities.
**This includes the following key responsibilities**:
- Responsibility for monitoring and oversight of the control adequacy in the ECM business line and including all legal entity affairs of SRCSGM, SRCME and SRCML entities. Work with the Boards and with management to establish the respective legal entity risk governance frameworks.
- Establishing, documenting and monitoring the risk control framework, including preparation of risk appetite framework, risk tolerance and capacity limits, consistent with the Group Risk Management standards.
- Monitoring risk exposures particularly market, credit, liquidity and operational risks, including coordinating regular reporting and utilizing relevant risk management experts where necessary.
- Monitoring business plans and performance on statutory, economic and qualitative bases, together with the risk exposures, in order to highlight any actions that may be required to stay within risk tolerance of the entity.
- Ensuring together with the Compliance function that all legal entities meet all the aspects of risk controls as defined in the different jurisdictions (mainly CSSF Circular 20/758, FCA Handbook and Dodd Frank)
- Provide risk management support to Head Weather & ECM in managing their operational and strategic risk, including independent assessment of operational framework, functional strategy and projects and their implementation,
- Collaborating closely with Finance, Operations, Legal and other Group Risk Management functions to ensure appropriate monitoring and control of all facets of relevant exposures
- Updating the risk governance documentation across entities with relevant regulatory additions/amendments
- Management or involvement in CorSo Risk Management projects and initiatives, including enhancement to risk identification process and knowledge exchange on current topics within (re)insurance industry.
- Supporting other Swiss Re entities in Luxembourg on financial market related topics particularly:
- Engagement with Swiss Re Asset Management, Operations, Treasury and Finance, monitoring asset exposures and asset liability matching (ALM), including overseeing the monitoring of performance against ALM principles, stock lending and collateral management, approval of new products, derivative use, monitoring the benchmark and investment processes and supporting the risk input and analysis.
**About the Team**
We collaborate with the regional Chief Risk Officers to implement the risk frameworks within the locations and to coordinate global risk topics. The team is fully embedded in the Group Risk Management organization, working broadly with the Swiss Re Group risk functions. We also work closely with the broader CorSo functions such as Underwriting, Claims, Operations and Finance teams.
**About You**
- Demonstrated ability (5-10 years of experience) in Risk Management and/or Financial Services, with knowledge in one or more of the following areas: weather & energy commodity derivatives, market risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, operational risk, insurance/reinsurance, asset management, financial markets, regulatory frameworks (ie MiFID II, EMIR, IFD/IFR, ICARA), ILS
- Excellent spoken and written proficiency in English, knowledge of French and/or German would be an asset
- Independent thinker - willing to challenge - proactive, curious, and keen to learn
- Proven ability in business partnering, communication and influencing skills
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Self-starter with the ability to drive solutions independently and in teams
- Ability to be very organized and structured
- Good interpersonal skills, collaborative, great teammate, ability to operate effectively in a multi-cultural matrix environment
