The
EIB, the European Union's bank, in the framework of its GRAD programme, is seeking to recruit for its Portfolio Management & Monitoring Directorate (PMM) - Counterparty Management Department (CM)*, at its headquarters in Luxembourg,
two Graduates.



These are a full-time temporary positions.

The terms of this contract will be 1 year; as these are temporary replacement assignments, no extension or conversion of the contract is foreseen.

_ Panel interviews are anticipated for March 2023._
- _The successful applicants will be assigned to their respective divisions and units following the outcome of the panel interview_.

Purpose:


Under the supervision of the Head of Unit, you will contribute to the regular monitoring of the EIB corporate counterpart portfolio.


Specific Post Environment:


PMM monitors counterparts and financial contracts and acts on contractual events under its responsibility, as well as on distressed transactions in order to protect the EIB's financial interest and reputation.


PMM/CM is the Department responsible for the monitoring of corporates, financial institutions, public sector entities and sub-sovereign authorities across all countries, both inside and outside the EU.

The Department consists of different Divisions, which are composed of several Units. The Department also plays an active role in the disbursement process for the lending operations (excluding the first disbursement).

PMM is also responsible for developing and updating the Bank-wide Financial Monitoring Guidelines.

Operating Network:


You will be assigned to the Infrastructure & Basic Industries Division and will carry out, the regular monitoring of a corporate loan portfolio.

You will work closely with other Units in the Division where you can be assigned monitoring responsibilities on an ad-hoc basis.


Accountabilities:


Under the close supervision of the Head of Unit and/or Financial Monitoring Officers, you will work on several tasks in parallel and within well-defined deadlines.


The responsibilities are the following:

  • Preparation of financial analysis through counterparty spread sheets based on an existing template. This encompasses a breakdown of the figures of the counterpart concerned and allows the calculation of financial ratios over a period of, normally, 3 years.
  • According to an agreed programme, prepare counterpart reviews (with the proposal of appropriate internal ratings) and compliance with outstanding contracts.
  • Review of contractual clauses with counterparts to check their compliance, and support colleagues in the followup, where appropriate, of the related contractual events.
  • Promptly flag any noncompliance contractual event as well as any sign of credit deterioration of selected counterparts, and timely provide comments/updates as requested.
  • Monitor and followup the repayment of the loans as they fall due.
  • Research and compile appropriate information on the counterpart being useful for the regular monitoring including, information related to compliance when applicable.
  • Check and, when necessary, update in a timely and accurate manner the data related to selected counterparts in the Bank's IT systems.
  • Filter from systems appropriate information as necessary to be used in the course of the required work.
  • Understand and follow ongoing developments in the sector and countries of selected counterparts.
  • Participate in the disbursement process of the loans.
  • Provide input for the Division's internal reports as well as for any adhoc information request from management.
  • Carry out any additional horizontal task assigned by the management.
  • Provide input for the counterparts' KYC and compliance monitoring.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics or Law preferably supplemented by postgraduate studies and/or relevant training in financial sector analysis
  • A maximum of 2 years of work experience (excluding internships for less than 9 months) since your most recent graduation. Practical experience in line with the role and/or highly related academic studies would be preferred
  • Basic knowledge of financial analysis
  • Proficiency in MS Office Tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Understanding of the EIB mission and activities as well as the operating and political framework in which the Bank operates. Previous EIB exposure will be an advantage.
  • Fluency in English. The knowledge of other European languages will represent a strong advantage.
