European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its
General Secretariat Department - Research & Market Analysis (RMA) Division at its headquarters
in Luxembourg,
several (Senior) Research Officer(s).
4/5.
This is a generic campaign in the view of both current and possible future vacancies.
Panel interviews via video-conference are anticipated for January/February 2023.

Purpose:
_**RMA is primarily responsible for analysing market trends and needs, as well as the economic impact of EIF's activities.
RMA covers the whole range of EIF's current and future activities, prepares research papers, acts as _internal_ advisor and as _external_ research-related interface.
_ Operating Network:
_
You will report to the Head of Division, who in turn reports to the Secretary General.
You will work in close cooperation with all RMA colleagues, many other EIF services, and with a wide range of external stakeholders in the field of Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) & innovation financing.
_ Responsibilities:
_
At a level commensurate with your experience you will:
- In cooperation with other colleagues and teams, mainly focus on either:
- Analysing the economic impact of EIF's activities (all business lines), and contributing to the establishment, improvement and implementation of tools and methodologies relevant to this task; or
- Participating in the design, implementation and analysis of EIF's surveys (various business lines) and production of the related output (in particular publications and presentations) as well as contributing to the establishment, improvement and implementation of tools and methodologies relevant to this task.
- Compile, buildup, analyse, and maintain appropriate market intelligence relevant to EIF's activities;
- Conduct applied economic research and market analyses on a wide range of topics (e.g. SME financing, climate/green finance, innovation, policy, regulation, sector analysis), covering the whole range of EIF's activities;
- Interpret and disseminate research findings through technical reports, policy papers and notes on matters affecting EIF's activities;
- Contribute to EIF's external positioning / reputation building in particular in the areas of impact assessment and/or surveys (e.g. via EIF working papers, other publications, presentations, participation in external committees and working groups, etc.);
- Contribute to the strategic further development of the EIF (incl. contribution to the development of new mandates/products);
- Cooperate with a wide range of stakeholders in the field of SME/innovation finance;
- Act as internal advisor and information provider;
- Manage independently (but in close coordination with the Head of Division and senior officers of the team) research projects, including onboarding, cooperation, coordination and supervision of external researchers and consultants.
_ Qualifications:
_
- Minimum requirements:_
- University degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics or other relevant field, preferably at postgraduate level (e.g., MSc, PhD);
- At least 3 years of postgraduation (after having obtained your initial university diploma) relevant professional experience at the same level of responsibility either in the banking / financial sector with a focus on SME finance research or in academia (preferably working on a topic relevant to the advertised position). Experience gained during PhD can be considered relevant;
- Proven experience in the area of policy focussed research and/or market analysis;
- Experience and knowledge in managing/analysing statistical data (e.g. from surveys, balance sheets);
- Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU language(s) would be an advantage.
- Any or multiple of the following qualifications would be considered a strong asset:_
- Experience in the theory and practice of economic impact assessments (e.g. counterfactual analysis, particularly in fields relevant to EIF's activities);
- Experience in designing, implementing, and analysing surveys, in particular online surveys;
- Experience in topics at the intersection of corporate finance and environmental economics;
- Knowhow of the statistical software in use in the Division (e.g. Stata and/or R) or, subordinately, knowledge of other statistical software/programming language(s);
- Publications in academic journals or proven experience in writing of / contributing to research papers at a quality level at which they can be submitted to academic journals;
- Good understanding of EIF's mission, activities, operational processes and the European institutional context;
- Familiarity with markets relevant to EIF's business (venture capital / private equity, guarantees, securitisation, microfinance, fintech, green finance, etc.).
