Luxembourg, Ville de Luxembourg LUXUAV Temps plein

LUXUAV is an innovative technology company headquartered in Luxembourg, shaping next-generation airspace security for defence, civil, firefighting and police missions. We build a fully integrated Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) ecosystem that connects mission systems across ground, air, and stratosphere into one coherent governmental and commercial architecture.

We are looking for a Senior 5G/LTE RAN Consultant for a one-to-two-month, project-based engagement to conduct this L1/L2 Feasibility Advisory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess feasibility of the software-defined 5G NR/LTE node, focused on the RF-to-L1 and L1-L2 integration boundaries.
  • Advise on L2 behaviour and scheduler configurability, and on external programmability (FAPI as the PHY-MAC API; O-RAN O1 and Open Fronthaul 7-2x).
  • Review vendor quotations, specifications, and acceptance criteria; advise on the spectrum authorisation route and test-licence lead times.
  • Assess the addition of a phased-array-based RF front-end, including array-to-L1 integration and SWaP-constraint feasibility and options.
  • Deliver a concise written feasibility opinion with a go/no-go risk view.

Qualifications & Experience

Must have

  • 8 years of mainly industrial experience in 4G/5G RAN development, integration, or systems engineering.
  • Strong grasp of 3GPP LTE and 5G NR radio access, including O-RAN split architecture, radio protocols, and procedures.
  • Solid L2 expertise (MAC scheduling, HARQ, RLC, PDCP) and a good understanding of the RF-to-L1 and L1-L2 interfaces.
  • Experience with feasibility studies and simulation of L1/PHY features and packet-scheduler algorithms.
  • Proficient with system- and node-level test methodologies, tools, and simulators.
  • Independent and vendor-neutral, with clear communication to technical leadership.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on development and testing of 5G L1/L2 protocol software.
  • Software-RAN experience (srsRAN, OpenAirInterface, or commercial equivalent).
  • Good understanding of end-to-end RAN systems and system-level performance optimisation.
  • EU spectrum/regulatory or NTN/airborne experience.
