We are partnering with a space technology company developing next-generation laser communication systems that enable high-speed data transfer between space and ground. As the company continues to scale its commercial product portfolio, they are seeking a Lead Mechanical and Thermal Engineer to join their team in Luxembourg.


Responsibilities


  • Lead the design, analysis, procurement, assembly, and testing of mechanical components, mechanisms, and ground support equipment for both space and ground terminal systems.
  • Define and develop mechanical and thermal requirements, ensuring alignment with overall system specifications and performance objectives.
  • Manage the Mechanical & Thermal Engineering function, overseeing task allocation, technical reviews, quality of deliverables, and the continuous development of engineering processes and best practices.
  • Perform structural, mechanical, and thermal analyses to support the design, verification, and optimisation of hardware.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure designs meet technical, performance, and programme requirements.
  • Support integration, testing, verification, and validation activities throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including system design documentation, interface control documents (ICDs), analysis reports, and engineering specifications.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the Mechanical & Thermal Engineering team, fostering continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Support supplier selection, procurement activities, and technical oversight of externally manufactured mechanical components where required.
  • Drive engineering excellence by identifying opportunities to improve design methodologies, workflows, and engineering standards.


Qualifications


  • Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
  • 10 years of professional experience in the relevant field.
  • Experience with both mechanical and thermal FEA.
