Permanent
Salary:
€85,000 – €100,000 per year
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced scientist with deep practical understanding of polymer chemistry, dissolution processes, and dope preparation. This hands-on role requires direct experience developing, characterising, and optimising concentrated polymer solutions for downstream processing and fibre spinning applications. The successful candidate will lead scientific development of our dissolution and dope preparation platform, focusing on polymer physical chemistry, rheology, moisture management, process-property relationships, and scale-up readiness. About Uplift360 Uplift360 is an Advanced Materials Company securing sovereign supply for Europe’s defence, security and vital industries. We secure and produce critical advanced materials, including carbon fibre and aramids, by sourcing, recovering and regenerating high-value materials into secure industrial supply chains. As geopolitical instability, supply chain fragility and industrial competition intensify, access to advanced materials is becoming a defining strategic advantage. Uplift360 is building the infrastructure and technology required to secure it. As a Senior Scientist, your key accountabilities will include: Provide scientific leadership in aramid polymer dissolution, dope preparation, and polymer physical chemistry. Develop and optimise dope preparation processes, including mixing, dissolution, moisture control, and process robustness. Design experiments to understand dissolution behaviour, rheology, stability, and process-property relationships. Develop and maintain characterisation methods for dope quality and process control. Support fibre spinning and scale-up activities through data-driven technical guidance. Prepare technical reports, protocols, and development plans. Mentor junior scientists and technicians. Collaborate with process engineering, analytical, and manufacturing teams to deliver project objectives. These key accountabilities listed above describe an overview of the post and are not intended to be exhaustive. The job holder is expected to accept reasonable additional tasks of similar level that may be necessary and not listed. Essential Knowledge, Skills and Personal Qualities: Strong practical expertise in polymer chemistry, polymer physical chemistry, and dissolution science. Proven hands-on experience preparing and optimising polymer dopes or concentrated polymer solutions. Strong understanding of rheology, moisture control, and process-property relationships. Experience translating laboratory findings into scalable process improvements. Excellent experimental design, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills. Ability to mentor junior team members and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. Desirable Qualifications and Experience PhD in Polymer Science, Physical Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. 7+ years’ experience in polymer systems, dissolution science, rheology, advanced materials R&D, or process development. Direct experience with dope preparation for fibre spinning, ideally including dry-jet wet-spinning or adjacent wet-spinning processes. Experience with aramids, high-performance polymers, solvent-based processing, or regenerated materials would be advantageous. Why Join Uplift360? We are a family friendly company that believes in supporting employees to find and maintain an excellent work life balance. Your physical, mental and financial wellbeing matters to us.
