The D. E. Shaw group seeks an associate to join its Finance and Operations (FinOp) team in Luxembourg. The FinOp team handles financial and regulatory reporting, tax compliance, operational support, and treasury and accounting functions for multiple European legal entities. This role offers exposure to the firm’s global financial operations, particularly in the management of its hedge fund vehicles and management companies, along with the opportunity to be part of a collegial and engaging working environment.
What you’ll do day-to-day
Collaborate with FinOp colleagues to perform financial and regulatory reporting, regulatory and tax filings, accounts payable, as well as other day-to-day activities of the firm’s entities in Europe.
Ensure compliance with various regulations, contribute to fund launches/closures and related entity incorporations/liquidations, and manage budgets and fund flows.
Coordinate with internal groups and external service providers across seniority levels and jurisdictions to prepare for and participate in board meetings, ensure adherence to corporate governance procedures, and field bespoke requests.
Develop systems to enhance the operational efficiency of the firm’s Luxembourg platform and contribute to special projects, such as supporting investment analysis and modeling, conducting historical analyses, implementing process improvements, and integrating new software.
Gain a macro view of the firm’s financial activities, learn about complex fund structures and transactions, and interact with technical investing groups, legal & compliance, management reporting, trade accounting, management company accounting, tax, treasury, and software development teams.
Who we’re looking for
Three to four years of experience in public accounting or in an accounting/reporting function at a hedge fund, investment manager, or other financial services firm is required, as is a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or a similar field.
Applicants should be proactive, detail-oriented individuals with an aptitude for accounting and a facility with numbers.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an analytical approach to problem solving, and a rigorous work ethic are essential.
Fluency in English is required, and Spanish and/or French language skills are preferred.
Creative thinkers with excellent organizational skills who are willing and eager to take on new tasks as our Luxembourg platform continues to evolve will excel in this role.
