The team comprises more than 300 staff spread throughout business units as well as corporate level activities such as IP, litigation, employment, M&A and investment. Position Sought We seek to hire a Legal and Compliance Counsel who will be responsible for providing various regulatory compliance initiatives of our payment and financial products related business. The Legal and Compliance Counsel will be based in our office in Luxembourg.
Primary Responsibilities As a core member of the Alibaba.com legal team, you will: 1. Advise on regulatory compliance of the payment and financial products. 2. Provide advice to business teams on compliance aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings. 3. Research local laws and regulations in foreign jurisdictions and manage outside counsel. 4. Develop in-house compliance tools and policies, and conduct trainings to business units. 5. Negotiate, draft, and review contracts and commercial agreements and product terms and conditions. Key Requirements 1. At least 8 years of experience in financial service regulatory or fin-tech legal sector (a mix of law firm and in-house experience is strongly preferred); 2. Strong experience in payments related licensing and regulatory matters; 3. Strong project management capability; 4. Proficiency in English required and Chinese (Mandarin) language capability would be a plus. 5. Highly-motivated and able to work independently and under pressure in a start-up environment. 6. Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in compliance training. 7. High integrity and desire to collaborate with others. 8. Open to international travel.
