XB Luxembourg is proud to be partnering with a leading international private investment firm in the search for an experienced Finance Director to join its Luxembourg-based European operations.
Our client is a well-established global investment manager with a significant international presence and a broad alternative investment platform spanning areas including Private Equity, Private Credit and Real Estate. The Luxembourg office plays an important role in supporting the firm's European investment activities and works closely with teams across multiple international locations.
This is a senior, hands-on position offering responsibility for a significant European portfolio, alongside exposure to complex transactions, international stakeholders and a broad range of operational and strategic finance matters.
The Role
As Finance Director, you will take a leading role in overseeing the financial and operational aspects of Luxembourg-based structures supporting European investment activity.
Working closely with investment professionals, finance and operations colleagues, tax and legal teams, and external advisers, you will be involved throughout the lifecycle of investments, from transaction execution and structuring through to restructurings, exits and ongoing portfolio oversight.
You will also act as a key point of contact between the Luxembourg operation and international teams, ensuring effective coordination across the wider business.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of finance-related matters across a portfolio of Luxembourg and European investment structures.
Partner with investment teams and internal stakeholders on acquisitions, disposals, restructurings and other transaction-related activity.
Coordinate with international finance, operations, tax, treasury, legal and compliance teams.
Support transaction execution, including cash management and the review and coordination of fund flows.
Oversee relationships with external directors, investors, portfolio company stakeholders and external advisers.
Manage and monitor external service providers responsible for accounting, reporting and tax compliance activities.
Oversee the preparation of management reporting, periodic financial information and annual statutory accounts, including the audit process.
Work closely with internal and external tax specialists on matters including direct taxation, VAT, transfer pricing and relevant statutory filings.
Contribute to the continued development and improvement of finance and operational processes.
Lead and develop a team within the Luxembourg finance function.
Collaborate with senior finance colleagues across other investment strategies on wider business and cross-functional initiatives.
Take on directorship responsibilities for relevant Luxembourg and international entities where appropriate.
Attend board meetings and travel internationally when required, including regular interaction with colleagues in other European offices.
Your Profile
We are looking for a senior finance professional with substantial experience gained within asset management, alternative investments or a similarly complex financial services environment.
You will combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and the ability to work confidently with investment professionals and senior stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
Requirements
Master's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related discipline.
A relevant professional qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CAIA or equivalent would be highly desirable.
At least 12 years' relevant professional experience.
Previous experience leading, managing and developing a finance team.
Strong exposure to transaction activity, including investment structuring, acquisitions, restructurings, exits and cash/fund flow management.
Experience working with alternative investment strategies such as Private Equity, Private Credit and/or Real Estate.
A strong understanding of the Luxembourg asset management and investment structures environment.
Sound knowledge of Luxembourg corporate governance and experience acting as, or working closely with, directors and boards.
Strong technical understanding of financial reporting standards, including Lux GAAP and IFRS.
Good awareness of the accounting, legal and tax considerations associated with Luxembourg alternative investment structures.
Comfortable working with both internal tax specialists and external advisers on complex tax and compliance matters.
Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively across international teams and time zones.
Strong written and spoken English is essential. French and/or German would be advantageous.
