Background
EHIS-LUX is a cross-sectional, population-based survey that describes the health status and health behaviours of residents of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg aged 15 years and older, as well as their health care and prevention needs. The survey is conducted by the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH) under the supervision of the Directorate of Health. Luxembourg participated in the data collections conducted in 2014, 2019, and 2025. The resulting data are used to inform public health strategies and support the implementation of evidence-based health policies. In parallel, the European Union Statistics on Income and Living Conditions (EU-SILC) survey monitors annual changes in the income and living conditions of Luxembourg's population. It is implemented by the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (STATEC). Each year, an ad hoc module is included; in 2025, the module focused on health-related topics.
Objectives
The aim of the internship is to compare health-related results obtained from the EHIS-LUX and EU-SILC surveys, exploring potential similarities, differences, and complementarities between the two data sources.
Training and research environment
The trainee will be supervised by both a statistician, Gwenaëlle Le Coroller, and a researcher, Maria Ruiz-Castell, benefiting from the complementary expertise of these two profiles to address the research objectives. The internship will provide hands-on experience in data analysis and public health research within a multidisciplinary environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Explore the scientific literature;
- Evaluate the different options;
- Apply the appropriate method to implement;
- Draft reports and publish research in peer-reviewed international journals.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications
- Good knowledge in R or SAS;
- Good knowledge of statistical methods;
- Excellent communication, coordination and planning skills;
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team;
- Good proficiency in English (written and oral). Proficiency or knowledge of French would be an asset.
