The Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department, made up of 200 life science, environmental science and information technology researchers and engineers, provides the interdisciplinary knowledge, expertise and technologies to lead solutions including the major environmental challenges facing society, such as climate change mitigation, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, and environmental pollution prevention and control.
The Environmental Sustainability Assessment and Circularity (SUSTAIN) Unit of the Environmental Research and Innovation department (ERIN) of LIST is developing knowledge, transferable (software) technologies, practical methods and outreach activities for the simulation and comprehensive sustainability assessment of socio-economic systems. Its final purpose is to foster sustainable eco-innovation, through products and technologies, as well as support sustainability-oriented policy implementation and behavioural change to promote decarbonization transitions.
Within the SUSTAIN Unit, the applicant will be incorporated in the Life Cycle Sustainability Analysis (LCSA) research group. The group consists of ca. 20 researchers developing sustainability metrics and indicators, to assess the environmental and social impacts of products, technologies, territories and policies, with industries and policy makers.

**How will you contribute?**:
She/he will have an active role in two types of activities:
1) performing LCA studies of products, services or organisations, following ISO 14040/44 and other relevant standards,
2) developing environmental product declaration (EPD) of products. Main duties will be to run, under the supervision of experienced researchers, LCA studies of products and technologies in different sectors, e.g. construction materials, health services and consumer goods. She/he will have to closely interact with external partner(s) to carry out the evaluation.
The LCA analyst will also contribute to research projects, such as the development of LCA tools or new methodological approaches.
Must Have Requirements
- Master’s degree in environmental science or engineering with specialization in LCA or equivalent. PhD is an asset
- Good knowledge of LCA methodology and standards
- Good knowledge of LCA software such as SimaPro, GaBi or OpenLCA
- Basic knowledge of industrial processes
- Programming skills and proficiency with Brightway2 would be assets
- Proven organizational skills and interdisciplinary thinking, a problem-solving mind-set, and a strong team-working capability, but is also able to work in autonomy and creatively
- Practices such as requirements gathering, version control, testing, security issues and writing software documentation
- Flawless knowledge of English (both spoken and written) is required. Knowledge of Luxembourgish, French and/or German is an asset
