Secondary Laboratory Technician
24 hours a week / 3 days
Starting September 1st, 2024.
Job Purpose
- To ensure that the preparation of resources for Biology, Chemistry and Physics practical lessons meets both the health & safety standards and the requirements of the classes involved.
- To ensure the availability of suitable materials and equipment.
This will include:
- To ensure that suitable resources are available.
- To ensure that stock levels are maintained, and future requirements are identified.
- To prepare orders, liaise with suppliers and the purchasing department.
- To ensure the maintenance of a healthy & safe working environment.
- To keep up to date with current procedures and practices through continuing professional development.
- The provide technical advice and support on health & safety issues to teaching staff.
- The safe treatment & disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and responding to actual or potential hazards.
- The healthy & safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials.
- To ensure that both routine and nonroutine checking, cleaning, maintenance, calibration, testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard.
- To prepare solutions, materials, and occasionally cultures for living organisms.
- To assemble, construct, and modify apparatus.
- To give technical advice to teachers and students.
- To assist in practical classes & carrying out demonstrations.
- To collect, check and return resources and equipment to stores.
- To maintain resources, including routine repairs.
- To clean and repair of equipment.
You will:
- Have a Bachelor's degree or similar in Biochemistry, Biology or Chemistry or equivalent lab technician qualification or experience in this field.
- Be able to support students ages 11 to 18 within your field.
- Have a good command of written and verbal English.
- Have experience of working with young people.
- Operate at all times within the stated policies and practices of the school.
- Maintain an uptodate knowledge of good practice in laboratory techniques.
