Amazon's Global Supplier Management team (GSM) is responsible for the execution of the global supplier management activity for the Global Procurement Organization (GPO) overseeing a spend of $45B.

As our Global Supplier Management team continues to grow, we are seeking a Supplier Operations Manager to partner with internal business owners and key stakeholders to drive procurement and operational value for Amazon.

The GSM team will work with Category Teams, Project Management Organization (PMO), Worldwide Design Engineering (WWDE), Finance, Global Engineering Services (GES) Operations Engineering (Ops Eng.), and Reliability and Maintenance Engineering (RME) to accomplish key deliverables across the indirect spend.

The primary objectives of the GSM team are to work with critical suppliers and internal teams to improve Return on Investment for the business through impactful supplier management activities.

Supplier Development and Relationships are key to ensure adequate supplier capacity exists to support Amazon's business requirements and to develop and execute strategies that keep the procurement of critical resources, products, and services.

Our Global Procurement Organization (GPO) team manages the procurement lifecycle of complex projects necessary to support Amazon's growth and customer commitments.

This role involves working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders, diving deep into data while simultaneously thinking big, building long-term strategic mechanisms that optimize for cost, coverage, speed, and, most importantly, customer experience.

Key job responsibilities

  • Act as a single threaded owner for supplier performance; convey weekly performance metrics and understand barriers to achieving those metrics
  • Capture and document root causes for performance and ensure plans are implemented to address those causes; lead improvement initiatives that result from under performance
  • Initiate Corrective Action Requests (CAR) when performance is not to standard; monitor and share progress with applicable stakeholders through consistent communication
  • Serve as a liaison between the suppliers and internal customers; foster collaborative working relationships with Procurement Operations stakeholders
  • Partner with Operations and other pillars with the Global Procurement Organization to ensure continuous improvement in the supplier relationship
  • Own business goals to optimize customer experience, cost, and speed
  • Develop deep understanding of auditing and optimization tools
  • Partner with product, technical, operations and other network teams to build scalable solutions
  • Drive alignment with multiple stakeholders and partner teams to ensure seamless execution and successful delivery of the business objectives
  • Develop a standard process mechanism that clearly documents assumptions and initiatives that need to be executed to meet the process
  • Create a feedback loop to improve processes by partnering with cross functional teams and integrating specific network programs, as needed
  • Monitor quality and progress of the process implementation; make changes to reflect the dynamic nature of the business
  • Foster communication channels and collaboration with the Procurement Operations, Procurement Category, and sitelevel Operations teams
  • Pull and report on data from key sources
  • Engage other business units globally to share best practices and improve endtoend outcomes for Amazon customers
A day in the life

The Supplier Operations Manager within this role will initially focus on supplier performance within the EU but could expand globally based on level of impact.

Primary activities will include:

  • Weekly performance meetings where site performance data (PassApp score) is shared directly with the supplier
  • Deep dive when performance is less than 85% (80% or below is the standard for failure)
  • Initiate Corrective Action Requests (CAR) when site performance falls below 85% for three successive weeks
  • Capture, monitor, and share the execution of CARs; ensure all action items are resolved in the agreed upon time frame
  • Monthly Business Reviews to discuss overall vendor performance
  • Act as the principal entity for supplier performance within GPO
  • Communicate across Category, Procurement Operations, and Operations trends in supplier performance and pending actions to improve that performance
  • Be a resource for Senior Program Managers and Operational leadership when assessing supplier performance
  • Facilitate communication between the site (Procurement Operations/Operations) and suppliers
  • Share best practices and serve as an escalation point for provider challenges and successes
