Climate change is one of the identified areas with increasing challenges and risks in the next decades. To provide the best-in-class actionable science-based loss preparedness and prevention solutions to businesses, FM Global is making vast investments into this area over the coming years, starting with the creation of the dedicated global Research Center for Climate Risk & Resilience headquartered in Luxembourg.

**Team**
- You will be part of the Climate Risk & Resilience Team within FM Global’s Research Division, that consists of scientists studying flood, wind, and other severe storms and is located across the U.S. (Norwood, Massachusetts), Asia (Singapore) and EMEA (Luxembourg).- The team performs fundamental and applied research to assess and reduce climate-related risk by developing state of the art physics-based and probabilistic models, partnerships with the world’s best climate scientists and researchers, and building on the practical experience from over 1300 engineers that perform over 100,000 site-specific risk assessments each year.- While the research is similar in technical rigor to that conducted at universities and in top government and industrial laboratories, the results are used to protect mutual client owner businesses via site-specific engineering, underwriting, product certification, claims, sales, and other organizations within the FM Global Group.***Responsibilities**:
You will be responsible for identifying, planning and conducting research related to extreme weather catastrophes impacting the EMEA region, such as wildfire, severe convective storms, European windstorms, and temperature related risks today and in regards of changes in the future. This position will be based in Luxembourg, the headquarter for the global Climate Risk & Resilience activities and home to the new FM Global EMEA Research and Training Centre (RTC) currently under development that will also serve as the companies’ regional headquarters. The EMEA RTC will expand and enhance the FM Global’s worldwide research including the research headquarters in Norwood, MA, USA, the FM Global Research Campus in Rhode Island, USA and a regional climate science team for Asia at the FM Global Centre in Singapore.

**Responsibilities Include**
- Conceptualizing and developing end-to-end modeling solutions at local to global scales, integrated with FM Global’s wind, precipitation, wildfire and storm surge models and maps.
- Preparing internal reports and presentations describing study results, and their relevance for loss prevention and risk management.
- Providing expert insights into your solutions and research area in client meetings.
- Developing plans for strategic research that will lead to significant, measurable improvements in the ability to estimate and reduce future property losses.
- Supporting the growth of FM Global’s impact in the Climate Risk & Resilience field by building and managing Partnerships with academia, governmental institutions and corporates adding to our in-house expertise.
- Representing FM Global’s Research Team and the work we are performing at conferences and publish White papers and peer-reviewed articles in scientific and industry-related journals.
- Participating in the selection process of new scientists for the EMEA research team.

**Qualifications**:

- Demonstrated project, research, and team management abilities. The job title may be adjusted depending on qualifications and experience.
- Multi-year industry experience in insurance or disaster risk reduction with deep understanding of catastrophe risk modeling principles including model setup, calibration, and validation.
- Broad physical and process understanding of the fundamentals of climate change and its uncertainties with demonstrated expertise on evaluating the impact on natural hazards.
- Experience with collecting, processing, and analyzing data.
- Solid background in probability and statistics.
- Experience in writing shell scripts for process automation, and excellent programming skills in programming languages including Python, R, MATLAB, and/ or Fortran.
- Excellent oral and written English communication and presentation skills, as well as demonstrated effective communication of highly technical and scientific insights to stakeholders and clients.
- Ability to self-start and multi-task and work
