Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.

The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.

**Responsibilities**:
**How will you contribute?**

There are currently about 2 224 communication satellites orbiting Earth. They ensure our needs for accessing and exchanging information. Given the importance of the technology they carry and the length of their service in space, it is fundamental to perform all the necessary tests on ground to guarantee good functioning of the satellite structure in space conditions. Typically, communication satellites undergo 45 days-long tests in temperature (-50°C to +75°C) and under high vacuum. Currently, temperature, strain and acceleration monitoring are ensured with around 1 500 sensors that are all cabled.

The objective of this Postdoctoral position is to make a compact and reliable strain and temperature transducer with a 1 cm2 footprint, that will be integrated into an autonomous and wire-free sensor. More specifically, the post doc will participate in designing the transducers and use ink-jet printing method to fabricate them on Kapton substrate. Electrical response (IV and capacitance) from these transducers will be then measured in temperature and under strain. Their recyclability will also be addressed.

Must Have Requirements

You hold a PhD degree in Materials Science or Experimental Physics, combined to a pronounced taste for experiments, teamwork spirit and strong motivation. You have knowledge in electrical characterization such as IV and capacitance measurements in temperature using the Linkam stage. You have some experience in materials processing in the cleanroom environment. Experience with the Python code is a strong plus.

You’re creative and well organized. Plus, you are fluent in English.
