**The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine** (FSTM) contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of **Mathematics**, **Physics**, **Engineering**, **Computer Science**, **Life Sciences** and **Medicine**. Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens, in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.

The Physics and Materials Science Department (DPhyMS) is embedded within the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM). DPhyMS hosts 19 active research groups, which have an excellent international reputation and work on a broad range of fundamental and applied topics (quantum science and technology, statistical physics and machine learning, chemical physics, soft and living matter, photovoltaics - sustainable energy, spectroscopy and functional materials). The joint efforts of experimental and theoretical groups from this department result in breakthrough discoveries published in top-level international journals, multiple prestigious European and National grants, and in scientific collaborations with academic and industrial partners.

**Your Role...**:
**Possible activities include**:

- Maintenance of physics instrumentation (e.g., vacuum chambers)
- Design and fabrication of custom-made precision components
- Handling logistic of the laboratories (delivery of instrumentation)
- Educates students on the basic principles of manufacturing and is expected to teach students on how to read/make designs in a meaningful way
- Safety-related duties (understanding of the GDPR compliance, ensure Lab safety guidance’s are being implemented, to carry out local H&S inductions for new staff and students and authorize lab access)
- Developing of new and participation in existing outreach activities of DPHYMS

**What we expect from you**:

- Background in mechanical engineering, precision mechanics and/or mechatronics.
- Excellent technical/mechanical skills
- Very good knowledge of machining tools and design software
- Expertise in 3D printing and Laser cutting
- Experience in Labview/Arduino based programming for data acquisition and control is an asset
- Willingness to maintain complex systems and deal with complex tasks
- A sound understanding of Health and Safety regulations and procedures, and experience of implementing these in a laboratory environment
- Very good grades or references
- Fluent in English. Knowledge of German and/or French is an advantage
- Able to work and communicate in a multicultural environment
