Head of Ibbl

The Head of IBBL supports the development and implementation of organizational policies, contracts, and business relations to meet the strategic translational and financial goals of the Institute. He/she:

- will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the different IBBL teams and for ensuring that all functions related to processing samples are completed accurately and according to SOP’s
- will collaborate closely with the other TMOH units to ensure seamless operational integration of IBBL activities in the high-quality project execution of TMOH
- will support the translational research activities of LIH, working transversally across research institutions of a cross-border translational research framework

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**

Head of IBBL:

- Manage all operational aspects of Biobank department including personnel, research, productivity, general inventory, departmental metrics, and resources.
- Establish effective operational processes and procedures required to implement IBBL’s scientific and organizational strategy.
- Facilitate integration of IBBL as a pivotal translational unit into the Translational Medicine Operations Hub (TMOH), enabling transversal research programmes.
- Effectively communicate all unit affairs as needed and provide data, reports, and documentation as requested.
- Ensure all service/process improvements are identified, investigated, and resolved appropriately.
- Drive improvement in operational, quality, sample processing, computing, and financial practices.
- Follow the progression of the performance indicators and propose corrective actions if needed.
- Report on the performance of the unit to the Director TMOH by appropriate means (e.g. dashboards).
- Propose an annual budget in line with the objectives of the LIH performance contract.
- Establish and maintain collaboration agreements with external clients and partners.
- Suggest modifications of the organizational chart if necessary.
- Collaborate with the global support functions for the flawless implementation of corporate processes and policies throughout the Institute (Compliance, Finance, HR, Procurement, IT, etc.).
- Have the overall responsibility for the safety of the personnel.
- Be the spokesperson of IBBL at the TMOH leadership team.
- Represent and promote IBBL at external events on an operational and scientific level.
- Supervise IBBL-related internal and external communication in collaboration with the communication unit.

**KEY SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- Ph.D. or M.D. in a relevant discipline (biomedical science or healthcare).
- Experience in operational management of health care or pharmaceutical industries on an executive level for at least 5 years.
- An additional MBA or similar qualification with successful experience in the management of a large group would be considered an additional advantage.
- Hands-on approach with operational rigor, detail-oriented.
- Initiative, creative and proactive in the implementation of new ideas and technologies
- Business-oriented with highly developed influencing and negotiation skills: politically astute and comfortable with universities, hospitals, other academic groups, and partners.
- Excellent listening and communication skills with people from different cultural backgrounds, and team spirit.
- Flexible and adaptable to changing work environments.
- Language skills: Fluent in English, with proven excellent written skills in both languages. Any other language in use in Luxembourg would be an asset.
