The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) at the University of Luxembourg brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences.

The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on social, economic, political and educational issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society.

The FHSE offers six Bachelor and twenty Master degrees and a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future career.

**Your role**:
The position is located within the Institute for Social Research and Interventions, which is dedicated to critical and multidisciplinary perspectives on societal transformation and human development. Our research brings together social theory, empirical studies guided by a range of interpretive methodologies, and the critique as well as advancement of interventions and social policies. We are committed to participatory and inclusive research practices, involving professionals, service users, activists, and policy-makers through outreach and co-productive research. We maintain the SocioLab, a platform for interpretive and critical social research, and the living lab ALICES (Agora Luxembourgeoise partICipative de l’intErvention Sociale) for organising and theorising exchanges between academics, professionals, service user and policy makers.
- The holder of the position will conduct doctoral research in one of the following key areas_
- Power, agency and violence in social interventions
- User involvement, professionalism and participatory practice
- Subjectivation research
- Sociology of knowledge (construction and co-production of social categories and norms)
- Critical perspectives on sustainability, equity, human and social rights
- Your tasks_
- Develop a PhD project situated in one or combining several mentioned key areas
- Contribute to ongoing research projects in the social sciences
- Assist in organising academic events (e.g. in the context of the SocioLab) and outreach events (e.g. in the context of ALICES)
- Participate in the wider academic community through conference and workshop participation
- Teach and assist in undergraduate and graduate courses
- Publish research outcomes in peer-reviewed venues

**Your profile**:

- Master diploma (M.A.) in sociology, social work, or other relevant discipline
- Excellent command of academic English, and working knowledge of French or German
- Conceptual, theoretical, and methodological proficiency in the social sciences
- Knowledge of interpretive social research methods (hermeneutics, discourse analysis, biographical research, videography). Familiarity with additional approaches such as network analysis or digital methods is welcome
- Basic knowledge of quantitative methods
- Experience with empirical research
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an academic setting
