Your role

The SIGCOM research group, headed by Prof. Symeon CHATZINOTAS, carries out research activities in the telecommunication and networking systems, including NTNs and quantum communication infrastructure, and is currently expanding its research activities in exploring several emerging topics of next-generation communications and computing systems. The successful candidate will work under the academic supervision from the University of Luxembourg, and in close collaboration with its industrial partner SES, in the development of advanced reliability and connectivity techniques for multi-orbit satellite systems. In particular, the position holder will be required to perform the following tasks:

• Contribute to the design and performance evaluation of multi-connectivity (MC) frameworks for multi-orbit satellite systems (e.g., GEO-MEO-LEO)
• Develop, optimize, and experimentally validate MC-based reliability solutions for multi-orbit systems compared to single-connectivity baselines
• Carry out research in other related areas
• Disseminate findings through scientific journals and international conferences

Your profile

Qualification: The candidate should possess an M.Sc/M.Eng. degree in one of the following fields: Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or Computer Science/Engineering.

Experience: The candidate should have strong digital signal processing and mathematical backgrounds, evidenced by grades and/or prior publications. Additionally, the candidate should have expertise or a strong interest (evidenced by familiarity with fundamental concepts) in several of the following topics:

• Wireless, mobile, satellite communications and non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), including multi-orbit (GEO, MEO, LEO) architectures.
• 5G/6G technologies with a focus on 3GPP-based multi-connectivity
• Communication system modelling, performance analysis, and simulation.
• Optimization tools and machine learning techniques.
• Hands-on experience with software-defined radios (SDRs) and/or OpenAirInterface5G software stack.

Programming Skills: MATLAB or Python, C/C++.

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. French, German, or Luxembourgish is a plus.
