Through its research into advanced materials and processes, the “Materials Research and Technology” (MRT) department, with its 200 researchers and engineers, contributes to the emergence of enabling technologies that underpin the innovation processes of local and international industry. MRT’s activities
hinge on four thematic pillars: nanomaterials and nanotechnology, scientific instrumentation and process technology, structural composites, and functional polymers.
The department also includes four high-tech platforms, focusing on composites, prototyping, characterization and testing. These platforms serve both LIST research staff, and other stakeholders in Luxembourg.
**How will you contribute?**:
This position is developed in the frame of the Sustainable Composite Materials & Manufacturing (SCMM) Innovation Centre, supported by the Ministry of Research, the Ministry on Economy, and LIST. SCMM focuses its Research and Technology Developments on the challenges
in transport sectors towards zero‐emission mobility solutions. The initiative is endorsed by large OEMs in the automotive, rail, aeronautic and space sectors (Toyota, Airbus, Thales Alenia Space and Alstom), which steer the centre’s vision and endorse the R&T roadmap.
LIST's mission will then be to accelerate the use of bio-based and/or recyclable materials for ultra-lightweight functional parts, and to develop industrial processes with a low carbon footprint. These technological building blocks will be integrated in the form of demonstrators developed and
constructed with the involvement of composite material manufacturers, members of the SCMM, concerning vehicle bodywork, interior panels, and structural vehicle components.
You hold a hold a PhD degree in Materials Science or Materials Engineering, with proven theoretical and practical skills in natural fibre reinforced composite manufacturing, composite mechanics, and interface engineering, and wish to carry out impactful, high quality experimental research in collaboration with a diverse group of colleagues.
If you are a team player, able to quickly adapt to issue by proposing new solutions, open to other researchers’ ideas, and used to work in a timely fashion to meet deadlines. Additionally, you have a great command of English both written and spoken.
