Job summary
Help Amazon become Net Zero by 2040. This position is part of a dynamic, new sustainability policy practice working to create the policies necessary to make progress on climate change. This role sits at the intersection of sustainability, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting, policy, and technology, with a focus on European Union (EU) institutions, EU Member State governments and multilateral institutions with an eye to related standard-making efforts across the globe. You will collaborate with external stakeholders, coordinate with trade associations, business coalitions, and work directly with policymakers to shape new reporting and transparency policies in Europe and beyond.

This role can be based in London, Brussels, Berlin or Luxembourg.

A day in the life
The Public Policy Manager for ESG will join a growing and dynamic public policy team working in Europe, the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, India, and sub-Saharan Africa, to drive public policy in support of Amazon’s Sustainability goals. You will create and lead outreach with policymakers, multilateral institutions, and other stakeholders help inform the policy surrounding ESG reporting with a priority focus on the EU and the UK. Experience successfully shaping public policy, a background in sustainability and ESG reporting, and experience working on regulatory issues at the EU or EU Member State level are key. As part of our Sustainability Practice within the International Public Policy team, you will work with country leads and our Legal team to evaluate policy proposals, recommend advocacy strategy and align internal support. You will collaborate with external stakeholders and work directly with policymakers on ESG and reporting policy issues of importance to Amazon’s business and our customers in Europe. You will also evaluate emerging ESG regulatory frameworks in priority markets in the Middle East, Asia-Pacific, India, and sub-Saharan Africa.

About the team
The International Public Policy leads policy engagement on behalf of Amazon globally. The Sustainability Practice was created in 2021 to work across geographies and business teams supporting policy development that advance and highlight Amazon's significant sustainability commitments, including The Climate Pledge, Amazon's commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2040.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working on policy topics related to ESG reporting, corporate sustainability, and technology.
- Familiarity with emerging regulations on mandatory ESG reporting and the guiding frameworks to inform reporting.
- A proven record of successful collaboration with industry groups, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
- A history of public sector advocacy and network in relevant institutions.
- A background working with complex coalitions, building stakeholder groups, and coordinating across matrixed organizations.
- Highly effective oral and interpersonal communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate and political levels.
- Strong written communication skills with a background writing on policy issues for non-policy readers.
- A self-starter that has created, led and driven innovative projects from concept to conclusion.
- Proven team player that has worked in roles that require coordination across various teams to achieve success.
