**LISER **invites highly qualified and motivated applicants for the position of _Research Associate/Officer _(postdoc level) in the Cross-Departmental Research Program on Crossing Borders. The postdoctoral researcher will work under the supervision of Prof. Frédéric Docquier, who is leading the Crossing Borders Research Program and coordinating the ACROSS Doctoral Training Unit (DTU).
**This hybrid position involves a dual mission**:
**Crossing Borders at LISER**
The Research Program on Crossing Borders has specific objectives: (i) Assess the size and structure of historical and recent cross-border flows, and understand their root drivers; (ii) Use innovative sources of data to study the interplay between different forms of mobility; (iii) Analyze the economic and societal consequences of these flows for all parties concerned; (iv) Build projection tools to anticipate future movements; (v) Develop tools to help policy decision-makers maximize the gains and/or minimize the cost of current and future movements; (vi) Provide stakeholders and the civil society with databases and expert analyses that help them understanding the forces at work and the consequences of policy actions.
**ACROSS Doctoral Training Unit**
ACROSS is a Doctoral Training Unit created in 2020 and funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR's PRIDE funding scheme). It gathers economists and geographers from LISER, from the Department of Economics and Finance of the University of Luxembourg, and from the Research Division of STATEC. The three partner institutions aim to create a team of excellence on cross-border mobility, a team where migration and labor market scholars can interact together with data providers, and where new generations of PhD students can benefit from synergies between institutions.
**Your role**
- With regard to scientific activities (about 60% FTE):
- Actively contribute to the production of academic outputs in interaction with other members of the DTU and LISER, focusing mostly on the policy-oriented research activities;
- Develop a scientific profile through publications on the DTU priority research topics such as the assessment and determinants of cross-border and within-border mobility, their implications for sending and receiving regions, mobility responses to climate change, immigrants’ integration, racism and discrimination, among others.
- With regard to promotion and communication activities (about 20% FTE):
- Produce policy research reports and policy briefs;
- Communicate results to stakeholders within and outside academia;
- Assist other members of the DTU in promotion and communication activities;
- Engage in fundraising activities at national and/or international level by contributing to the writing and submission of proposals.
- With regard to administrative activities (about 20% FTE):
- Assist the DTU coordinator with organization, development, quality assurance of the DTU and Research Program;
- Participate in the daily management of the DTU and Research Program, and contribute to reporting tasks, organization of the work plan, submission of deliverables, etc.;
- Liaise with support services and administrative staff for the development of the projects.

**Your profile**
- **PhD in Economics or in Social and Data Sciences.**
- Proven record of successful research, good knowledge of **quantitative methods**,
- Strong interest in **policy-oriented research**,
- Experience in writing policy briefs and research proposals, developing research networks, and communicating findings to various types of stakeholders (academic audience, decision-makers, broader public).
- English is the primary language of LISER and as such, **excellent written and oral skills in English** are required. The institute provides courses for researchers interested in learning other languages, especially French, which is the second most widely spoken language in the Centre.
