Job Purpose
- Management of the Product Development formulation resources including the R&D Laboratory
- Leading, organising, and controlling the R&D Laboratory team to enable development of new and optimisation of existing formulas.
- Development & Management of the defined technology for the group
- Manage, co-ordinate and control the formulation portfolio for his or her technology domain.
- Ensuring the project portfolio (COP, NPDs, EPDs, Tender, Sampling, benchmarking study, Industrialisation and Scale up) for his/her category is achieved in time and budget
- Set day to day priorities, working with the team to ensure the highest level of service for internal and external customers.
- Manage communication with the wider business.
- Ensure a safe work environment for teams

Your responsibilities will be

Leadership
- Setting the Health and Safety standards for the R&D laboratory.
- Ensuring compliance with processes and procedures and looking for improvement opportunities.
- Leading the laboratory team in order to deliver the technology centre priorities, ensuring that the specified objectives on price, quality, timing, safety and environment are met.
- Ensure collaboration, alignment and develop synergies with other labs in order to align processes and link in the most effective way.
- Promoting a culture of identifying and delivering continuous improvement opportunities.

Technology
- Leading the team to develop and manage new formulations in order to meet internal and external customer demands.
- Leading the team to develop and manage new formulations in order to lead consumer organisation publication in the countries we operate.
- Ensuring the following activities are in place in order to deliver the optimal solution for the business
- Researching and adopting new innovative concepts to provide formulations of high quality with extra benefits, unique selling proposition, exclusive concept ahead of competition to drive our Product leadership position.
- Optimising existing formulations in order to drive a cost leadership position
- Ensuring the agreed benchmarking schedule is adhered to and appropriate actions taken in response to findings.
- Formulation teams are interpreting results
- Appropriate action is taken in order to highlight the requirement for a new product development or to instigate a program of re-engineering of existing products
- Ensuring the appropriate external testing is carried out for all formulation developments, paying special attention to methodology and budget demands. Encouraging and facilitating strong working relationships with test houses.
- Promotes and set regular contact with suppliers in order to be informed of new concepts, raw materials and market tendencies. Encouraging and facilitating this with the development engineers.
- Management of the raw material portfolio in the technology domain
- COP / Cost Leadership
- Responsibility for managing the budget of the R&D laboratory on site
- Providing the best cost leadership formula in response to tender and customisation requests.
- Assuring a timely and accurate response to the costing and sampling requests with a focus on appropriate technical data and high quality sample delivery.

Communication and Technical Support
- Ensuring that formulation data steward delivers the required technical data to the business stakeholders.
- Ensuring the team follow defined group processes in order that the formulation technical files (technical data sheet, safety data sheet, input for the legal department) are drawn up correctly and on time in order to give the required information to the customer.
- Managing the formulation data stewards and responsible R&D team members to ensure the accurate and timely delivery of technical information.
- Reporting the progress of all projects and activities to the head of product development and providing the appropriate information to the Reginal sales leader and wider business stakeholders
- Managing the daily communication with the Business Unit clusters and customers in order to develop customer relationships.
- Making decisions on the appropriate level and format of information to be shared with BU clusters and wider business stakeholders.

Supply chain support
- Allocating resource for technical support on supply chain related projects.
- Involvement with the management team of the local plant
- Assuring that the first production of a new formulation concept fits with the internal & external requirements.
- Leading the technical support for site accreditation and audit
- Formulating appropriate responses to product performance complaints and to liaise with site quality teams and local labs where needed.
