The **Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences** (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. People from across 20 disciplines are working within the Faculty. Along with the **disciplinary** approach a very ambitious interdisciplinary research culture has been developed.
The faculty’s research and teaching focuses on **social, economic, political **and** educational** issues with the common goal of contributing to an inclusive, open and resourceful society. The FHSE offers six Bachelor and twenty Master degrees and a doctoral school providing students with the necessary knowledge and high-qualified skills to succeed in their future career.
**Your Role...**:
As part of the Computational Cognitive Science and Modeling Group, you will conduct research for a doctoral thesis positioned in Psychology, supervised by Prof. Heiko Schütt. As a Ph.D. student in this project, your work will concentrate on developing new models of human visual processing, methods to test them effectively and/or occasional behavioral experiments that implement these tests.
- Conducting original, interdisciplinary research situated between Psychology, Cognitive Science and Machine Learning
- Developing and implementing models of human visual processing
- Conducting empirical (experimental) research with human participants
- Collaborating with researchers coming from various disciplines
- Participating in joint research group activities (e.g., colloquia, creativity sessions, teaching)
- Presenting research findings at workshops and conferences
- Publishing scientific articles in peer-reviewed international journals
- Writing a cumulative PhD thesis
**What we expect from you**:
- Completed master’s degree in psychology, cognitive science, computer science, or related fields (by the start date of the position)
- Training/experience in as many as possible of the following:
- computational modeling, statistics, data science or machine learning
- human visual processing and/or computer vision
- cognitive science, psychophysics, and/or psychological research
- Programming skills in Python, R, C, and/or Julia
- Good command of written and spoken English
- Motivation to conduct research
- You are a team player
