The **EIB**, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Operations Directorate (OPS), Western Europe Department (WE), Corporates Division (4-CORP), at its headquarters in Luxembourg, an **(Associate) Banker *.**

**This is a full time position at grade 4/5 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.**

**Purpose**:
To contribute to the identification, appraisal, negotiation and initial stage monitoring of lending transactions in the corporate sector, according to EIB policies and procedures and with the objective to contribute to EU Policy goals

**Operating Network**:
You will report to the Head Division and cooperate very closely with the Head of Division and colleagues working in the Division as well as with the WE representatives in the relevant external offices.

**Accountabilities**:
Origination/Lending process
- Track developments and monitor your target market
- Develop and maintain a network of contacts in said market
- Screen proposals and identify lending opportunities that best meet the Bank's objectives
- Evaluate, at an early stage, the quality of potential borrowers and guarantors by preparing key financial analyses, including financial models and debt-service capacities
- Lead and coordinate the lending process in cooperation with other Directorates
- Structure loan proposals, evaluate feasibility, analyse operational and financial risks, draft reports and lending proposals in cooperation with the appraisal team

Negotiation of contracts
- Negotiate terms and conditions and legal documentation with the promoter/borrower and other counterparts in coordination with PJ, GR&C-RM and JU
- Organise contract signatures

Disbursement process
- Monitor the disbursement process and fulfilment of conditions
- Follow up project developments, in coordination with PJ, as appropriate. Ensure, in line with applicable guidelines, a regular review of the financial position of counterparts/projects and contractual compliance in conjunction with PMM

Optimisation of operating tools and working methods
- Innovate and suggest improvements to existing tools, systems and products in order to contribute to the continuous improvement of working methods and development of products and monitoring activities
- Ensure correct input of data concerning own area of activity into the management information system

Operational management

Create and maintain a work environment in the Division conducive to teamwork, creativity, quality and productivity

**Qualifications**:

- At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in long term lending and / or in structured finance, preferably in a bank or in a rating agency
- In-depth understanding of the EIB’s objectives, policies, procedures, organisation and activities and its role within the EU policy framework
- Solid understanding of credit and lending activities
- Ability to perform comprehensive financial analysis and to prepare business models / financial projections in excel
- Strong business acumen and understanding of the operational processes. Solid project management capabilities
- Experience in collaborative cross director horizontal policy work and/or product development would be an advantage
- Excellent knowledge of English and a good knowledge of French(*). Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
