**Research Associate (Postdoc) in the Spatial Analysis of Housing Production (f/m)**- **Ref: 23-03**
- ** Expected start date: 1st March 2023**

**LISER **is looking for a Research Associate (Postdoc) who will play a key role in developing high quality, scientific and policy-relevant work within the _Urban Development and Mobility department_, in the framework of the _Housing Observatory_.

**The Housing Observatory **is a multi-annual collaboration between **LISER **and the** Luxembourg Housing Ministry** that has been running since 2003. It is the authoritative source in Luxembourg for housing prices and rental statistics, as well as for information related to residential land: the total surface available for residential development, as well as the process of residential land consumption. The Housing Observatory also supports the Ministry of Housing in the development of policy, through the drafting of thematic research reports. The Housing Observatory team brings together a number of different disciplines (geography, economics, sociology and urban planning) and draws on both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, with a strong spatial analysis component.

**Your role**

Your mission within the UDM department will be divided into two main activities:

- Advancing the spatial analyses conducted in the Housing Observatory on residential land in Luxembourg, including its spatial characteristics and the processes through which it is developed.
- Developing an innovative research agenda and producing research outputs in line with the scientific topics of the UDM department.

**Your Profile**
- **PhD in Geographic Information Science, Quantitative Geography, Environmental Science** or equivalent with qualifications in line with the expectations of the position;
- Proven skills in mobilizing **advanced spatial analysis techniques** to survey and analyze urban development, ideally with a focus on housing production;
- Peer-reviewed international publications, research experience and outstanding scientific achievements;
- Ability to elaborate innovative, coherent and feasible research proposals for external funding;
- Excellent verbal communication and academic writing skills in English; fluency in French, Luxembourgish or German is an additional asset.

**About LISER**

LISER is a publicly funded research institute located in Luxembourg and dedicated to applied empirical research in economic, social and spatial sciences. The Institute hosts three departments (_Living Conditions_, _Labour Market_, and _Urban Development and Mobilit_y) as well as a _Data Management Unit_ that coordinates the collection of a wide range of survey data on households and individuals. Beyond its established departments, the Institute invests in several interdisciplinary research fields.

The Institute is located on the Belval campus in the south of Luxembourg, which hosts the University of Luxembourg and a substantial part of the country’s publicly funded research facilities, i.e. LISER, the Luxembourg Income Study (LIS) cross-national data centre, the Luxembourg Institutes of Health (LIH) and of Science and Technology (LIST). The University has outstanding high-performance computing facilities available for use by associated researchers in the Luxembourg Institutes.
