The
European Investment Fund
(EIF) is seeking to recruit for its
General Secretariat (GS) - Legal Service - Debt Operations Division, at its headquarters in
Luxembourg, several
(Senior/Principal) Banking and Finance Transaction Lawyer(s). These are full-time positions at grade 4/5 or 5/6 (depending on experience) for which the EIF offers a permanent contract.

Purpose:As part of the European Investment Fund's (EIF) Legal team (a multinational, award-winning team), you will mainly advise on banking and finance transactions across the European Union (structured finance, securitization, portfolio guarantees, loan facilities, microfinance facilities and loan funds) as well as mandate negotiations (negotiations with States, Regions or Multilateral Organizations).


Reporting Line:

You will work autonomously under the supervision of the relevant Head of Unit/Head of Division.

You will interact with all Division members (lawyers, paralegals and assistants), other Divisions within the General Secretariat, other Departments and interface with external contacts to support the timely execution of the Division's deliverables.


Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the structuring and development of transactions;
  • Negotiate the legal aspects of transactions, as well as followup and monitoring in relation to the EIF's transactions portfolio;
  • Negotiate and draft mandate documentation;
  • Liaise where necessary with external consultants and supervise their work;
  • Maintain a specialist competence in finance, as well as other areas in which the EIF operates;
  • Actively contribute to knowledge sharing within the team;
  • Contribute to the design and development of new financial instruments and mandates;
  • Be involved, as necessary, in other matters relating to EIF's activities;
  • For Senior Lawyer(s) in addition you will:
  • Efficiently manage assigned tasks in order to provide quick, reliable, and high-quality deliverables to various internal/external stakeholders;
  • Lead the structuring and development of transactions, acting as key point of contact;
  • Build a network of high level/quality external contacts, European Commission, financial community, EIB and other key stakeholders;
  • Participate and represent EIF and the Legal Service where required at external meetings, conferences, workshops, fund representation bodies, committees, etc.;
  • Guide, train and, if required, lead more junior staff members.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in law, complemented with a postgraduate degree;
  • At least three (3) years' relevant postqualification professional experience (Lawyer role), and at least five (5) years' relevant postqualification professional experience (Senior Lawyer role) preferably in a leading international law firm;
  • Knowledge of EIF's operational framework;
  • For Senior/Principal Lawyer(s) in addition:
  • Proven knowledge and track record of finance transactions (including cross-border banking or structured finance transactions) and a good understanding of main EU banking and finance regulations;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be an advantage.
