About the Position  

The Tire Intelligence team seeks a highly motivated individual to technically lead the development of algorithms relying on advanced vehicle dynamics and tire modeling principles. These algorithms will be a key enabler for launching innovative mobility solutions and services for OEMs and fleets. 

  

Primary Responsibilities  

  • Act as a subject matter expert for the global tire intelligence algorithm development team 
  • Provide technical and strategic consultation to the leadership team 
  • Develop forward looking and high-level technology strategy and direction 
  • Initiate projects aligned with the strategic roadmap 
  • Leverage open innovation, bridging the technology readiness gap and working with universities and research institutions to bring ideas from early concepts to realization. 
  • Understand competitive landscape and ensure intellectual property (IP) protection through patent/trade secret applications and defensive publications 
  • Project technology trends to create future mobility scenarios and disruptive innovation. 
  • Establish and maintain a repository of external publications on relevant topics  
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and training to the algorithm developers in the field of vehicle dynamics and tire modeling. Motivate team members to reach their full potential. 
  • Represents Goodyear externally as a technology expert in the field of vehicle dynamics and tire modeling 

 

 Required Education and Experience  

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and 10+ years of relevant experience OR Master's Degree in related field & 15+ years experience 
  • Deep expertise in vehicle dynamics and tire modeling topics 
  • Strong interest in the future of personal mobility and commercial transport 
  • Experience working across diverse cultural and geographic boundaries. 
  • Experience leading technology development projects  
  • Experience working on global teams, experience participating in external partnerships   

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the vehicle dynamics and tire mechanics topics for passenger cars, LCVs, and heavy-duty trucks 
  • Extensive experience with vehicle dynamics modeling programs such as CarMaker, VI-Grade, Dymola, ADAMS or CarSim 
  • Experience in tire testing and/or modeling, including experience processing and/or fitting tire test data taken on a flat belt test machine (SOVA, Calspan, Smithers, MTS, etc.) 
  • Experience in Magic Formula tire models, FTire, MF-Swift, or CDTire Modeling experience 
  • Knowledge of virtual sensing approaches for vehicle dynamics. 
  • Expert in solving complex technical problems  
  • Demonstrated expertise in transferring technology to the point of use in products 
  • Demonstrated ability to document standards / best practices  
  • Ability to identify areas for future technology development to close competitive gaps  
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies  
  • Excellent technical leadership skills
